“Hooray For Clay” To Open in Old Spencer Tire Co. Space

    Decatur Metro | November 23, 2009

As my wife observed yesterday, this latest addition to Decatur must have involved some serious clean up.

An “Hooray For Clay” sign has been erected over the old, long vacant “Spencer Tire Co.” location on E. Howard Ave.  The new ceramics studio already has a website, which exclaims…

Hooray for Clay is a working ceramics studio and gallery specially designed to provide families the perfect opportunity to experience the creative possibilities of clay.

No matter what the occasion, Hooray for Clay has the facilities, and instructors to help your group or family get creative, de-stress and have fun.

The website also notes that the studio will open some time in the new year.

Very glad to see another space filled along this great commercial street!

Hey, thank you for the mention! We’re extremely excited about opening this spring and being part of the community. It’s true, space requires a lot of cleaning but the floor plan is 90% there, the structure is GREAT and we really respect it’s history.

Anyone know how to reach the property owner at 506 E. Howard? This space has been for rent forever and there’s no contact information. I’d like to move my business there.

Chiatt — if you will contact me at with your contact information, I’ll see what we can do to connect you with the property owner.

Always makes me happy to see long-neglected corners of our town get picked up and dusted off for new use, especially a venture as interesting as this that helps cement (no pun intended) Decatur’s artsy, progressive reputation. Good luck!
