DHS Has Highest AA SAT Average in Georgia

    Decatur Metro | October 19, 2008

In announcing the top 5 SAT score gainers in Georgia last week, our sunny Gov also recognized the Georgia high schools with the highest SAT scores in their GHSA class over the last 3 years.

In the AA class…it was all Decatur High School.

Congrats to all the students, parents, teachers, administrators, staff, etc…!

Great news, but no big surprise. With all the folks that complain about CSD, and send their kids private this is justification that although there are issues in any school system that needs to be addressed, our administrators and educators and our kids are doing a fine job of making themselves, our community, and our school system, and their parents proud! Good job! DHS also got ranked by Newsweek Magazine last year in the top 5% of all public high schools in the USA.

Actually, Decatur High was #584 out of 1425 high schools listed on the Newsweek ranking… Using a little rough math.. I think that actually would put it in the top 2% or better.

But… I guess if someone really wants to spend that 20K per child per year for private school.. it’s their prerogative. Me, I’d rather save it for college… and maybe a couple of Caribbean vacations.

      584 out of 1425? 2 Percent?

Is my math off here? ;)

I am assuming ‘downtown’ knows how many public high schools there are in the USA, and used that formula. I don’t recall DHS’s specific number ranking on that list, but know it was on the list of the top 5%.

I don’t understand why any praise of the Decatur school system seems to bring out swipes at those who choose private school. Can’t you just embrace and celebrate what works for you without passing judgement on others ?

Congrats to Decatur High students and teachers. Keep up the good work !
