Decatur Market & Gallery Replaces Boswell
Decatur Metro | October 9, 2008At least some of our vacant spaces are filling up.
Carl sends in this update from the Decatur Market…
Recently we learned that one of favorite galleries, the Boswell Gallery in Decatur was closing after 3 great years. So we got to thinking, what if we added a gallery component to our list of projects and made it a co-op to give emerging artists and artisans more opportunities for success?
Would we be able to bring the very best that Atlanta has to offer in a cost effective, stylish manner that would appeal to everyone?
Once we decided to open the gallery, we decided to add a small outdoor market in front on Friday and Saturday nights. The five restaurants and four boutiques in the immediate neighborhood love the idea!
The new Decatur Market & Gallery opened on Oct. 3 to immediate success. The layout is smart and stylish with excellent artists and artisans showing their work in a sophisticated environment. The outdoor market will accommodate 10 vendors each Friday and Saturday night.
If you haven’t seen the gallery yet, stop by! (153 Ponce de Leon Pl., Decatur 30030; 404-377-0755) It’s open Tues. – Sat. 10-6, and stays open while the market is operating in front on the weekends. Be sure to mark your calendar for the grand opening on Sat., Nov. 1st.
I would often visit the Boswell Gallery so when we learned that the Decatur Market and Gallery had filled the shoes of an old friend, well frankly we were THRILLED!
Finally, some one is thinking outside the box!
On Friday and Saturday nights we are able to go have a bite to eat at Nathalie’s Fish house and then walk around and enjoy the art and style of many new emerging artist. What I really enjoy is how they added the outdoor market/ festival component to it. So not do I only have indoor shopping that I can do, but I can visit the space of many artist outdoors.
For me it was like being on vacation in my own neighborhood. New and interesting things every week, new artist arriving monthly and a chance to find unique handcrafted items without the inflated prices that you would find in most galleries. The owner and Artist Patrick couldn’t be nicer and I really enjoy getting to meet many of the artist that are often on site.
I’ll miss Boswell Gallery.. But, I think I have found the perfect replacement and a really good addition to my Decatur home/neighorhood. If you haven’t visited their gallery location yet,, do us all a favor,, go now! These are the types of things that making small town america exciting.
Don’t forget the “###” at the end. ;^)
