    Decatur Takes On Facebook

    Decatur Metro | September 25, 2008

    Wow…I must be slipping.

The city tipped me off to its new, official Facebook page a couple days back, but I had yet to get around to posting about it. Whelp, now it looks like the AJC beat me to the story. Ouch. However, while the AJC provides a link on its website for the inspired downtown Athens Facebook page, they provide no link to the Decatur page.

And though I found the page a couple days back when first alerted, now its no where to be found. I’ve found the Brick Store’s Facebook page, Thinking Man, the humorous You Might Be From Decatur, GA if…, Decatur High Bulldogs, and No More Condos in Decatur, but the city’s official page (named “downtown Decatur” when last I checked) is no where to be found.

    A little help?

UPDATE: David from InDecatur provides the link.

UPDATE II: Hilarious.  The AJC updates its article and links to Decatur’s new Facebook page.

That’s weird. Downtown was my friend yesterday and now they up and left without even leaving a note. Dude owed me twenty bucks.

So I’m not just losing it? Good to know.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say its not great PR to disappear on the day you’re featured in the AJC.

      Here it is:

      http://www.new.facebook.com/pages/Decatur-GA/Downtown-Decatur/36795564812?sid=7cd65afafd09a1afde72faaefe37ed72&refurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.new.facebook.com%2Fs.php%3Fq%3D%2522Downtown%2BDecatur%2522%26n%3D-1%26k%3D400000000010%26sf%3Dr%26init%3Dq%26sid%3D7cd65afafd09a1afde72faaefe37ed72&ref=s#/event.php?eid=26289864484&ref=mf

If that doesn’t work for you, search for “Downtown Decatur” and select Groups.

Carl invited me to join yesterday.

When I joined, it only had 6 members.

My bad. Link above is to the “Concert on the Square” event.

Here’s the link to “Downtown Decatur”:

Sorry, Native, that link also takes you to the concert page. This one took me to the main page:

We arrived at work this morning to find that Facebook had shut down the Downtown Decatur Profile and we were unable to access it to tell our new “friends” not to mention sending them $20 bucks! Apparently Facebook only allows a person to post a Profile – and Downtown Decatur does not qualify as a person.

Downtown Decatur is not to be thwarted so we created a Downtown Decatur Page which allows people to be “fans” instead of “friends.” Please tell all of our friends to come back and be fans – we miss you!

Maybe we won the greatest award bestowed on the internet, but you have AJC stealing stories from you.

So true Christa, so true. Maybe they’ll break into my house next and steal some old term papers! If we see a write up on why George Washington is the country’s only “classical hero”, we’ll know they’ve gotten in.
