Crescent Moon Closed Due to "Kitchen Failure" UPDATE: Now Open
Decatur Metro | September 14, 2008So, I am told by a friend, says a sign on the door.
UPDATE: While a friend told me that a sign said “closed until further notice”, reliable commenters are now telling me the sign just says “kitchen failure”.
Not sure if that’s because the sign changed, or if I just misheard.
UPDATE II: Steve reports in the comments that the Moon in Decatur is again open.
UPDATE III: A comment over in the AtlantaCuisine forums (spawned from a previous post here) says that a sign at the Mall o’ Georgia location says its closed as of Monday…though they weren’t sure it was permanant.

Actually, the sign on the door says they are closed due to “KITCHEN FAILURE” until 7:30 am (which I presume means today). I found it amusing that they left all of the condiments out on the outdoor tables, in case anyone needs ketchup, sugar, cream, etc. while they’re closed.
On Saturday I was a guest of one of the sponsors (Bubbling Creek Company) at the Garden of Eatin’, a fundraiser of the Decatur Cooperative Ministries. To compensate for getting in free, I hit the silent auction pretty hard. I was distressed to see several gift certificates from Crescent Moon. Hmmmm…I guess the people who went home with those should try to take comfort that their money went to a good cause.
“KITCHEN FAILURE” – that says it all.
By personal observation, the Moon was open at 10AM Monday, with two or three groups inside totalling maybe six or eight people.
Stay AWAY from that place until the founders can take it back over.
Today’s sign says they’re closed until further notice.
Hmm…that’s exactly what a friend told me it said last Sunday. I wonder if it’ll again evolve to “closed due to kitchen failure” tomorrow.
I’ve thought of taking pictures daily to compare and contrast…like last night when they were surprisingly open but with the sign turned off or a few days earlier when they were closed with the sign left on. I particularly enjoyed one of the weekdays they were closed and a whole table of staff was sitting next door at Ruby Tuesday drinking.
For those keeping up with the day-to-day drama, today they reopened with a note advising passers-by on the dry-erase board outside. The Open sign was once again not illuminated. They appeared closed again early this afternoon.
When will we know if Rob regains the rights? I will just be sick if we never have Crescent Moon (or whatever the new name ends up being) in Decatur! Shame on the people who drove it into the ground!!
I read here that there was some turmoil with the wait and cooking staff, but I still took a group today from out of town, hoping things had settled down. Nope. We were seated quickly but then waited an HOUR AND A HALF for our food. The wait staff was rude (not to mention questionably clean) and there was no offer of a discount to make up for our poor experience. There seemed to be no manager on duty. We ate our acceptable food quickly just to get out of there. My friends and I will never go back. This place needs to taken over by that “Kitchen Nightmares” show. Such a shame.

Some turmoil with the wait and cook staff? How about every vendor, employee and landlords not being paid. How about the meat they were serving you was of questionable origin? Did you think we were just making this stuff up? Many posts have been put on here begging the people of Decatur to band together and stop giving these bad people your money. In the days before all this political BS, towns people would banded together and run out people with such low morals. As far as I’m concerned you knew and still went? Well you got what you dissevered!
Handwritten sign on the door -
“To our loyal customers
We will be closed today
Tuesday, Sept 30
Sorry for the inconvenience”
I went to The Crescent Moon the other day to try and get the money owed to me by Global Restaurants, and the place was FILTHY. The kitchen smelled like rotten vegetables and bad grease, the floors were slimy, the dining room wasn’t busy but there were dirty tables all over the place…it was really bad.
And let me put this reminder out there to all of you. This same group of (insert expletive here) is opening up a new place just up the street at The Red Shoe. A co-worker drove by there the other day and saw them outside, so we know for sure that it’s the same group under a different corporate name.
PLEASE do NOT support this new “business” at The Red Shoe. Please spread the word.

I just wanted to say I keep hearing more and more terrible stories from other ex-employees as I run into them about town. I’m terribly sorry that the Greeks have done this to you guys. Especially those who have been there for years and have been put through, undoubtedly, more [edited] than I will ever know. Hang in there and good luck.

Where is Rob? Rob–are you out there? Update us please!
Just a thought, but maybe we should stop referring to the current owners as “the Greeks” and just call them “the current owners.” Considering the negativity associated with them and what they’ve done, I think that the negativity is being attached to their ethnic/national/racial background and not just to them as individuals. Even though unintentional, this seems to be degrading of all individuals with Greek backgrounds. We wouldn’t call them the Jews or the Blacks or the Asians if they belonged to one of those groups – or at least I would hope not. Everybody who’s been paying attention knows that the owners are Greek and let’s leave it at that and not act like we live in the stereotypical redneck south. Again, I know that nobody is intentionally disparaging all Greek people, but in reading some of the posts over again, it just doesn’t seem right to be calling them “the Greeks.”
I’ll step down from my soapbox, now.
OMG!!! Schuyler!!! You’re back in town? Call me.

sorry to use this blog for a personal shout out but I haven’t seen her in ages and I don’t haven’t seen Schuyler in ages and have lost her contact info. please forgive.
So, they were open Friday night..
Thank you, Doug, for your call to leave the “Greeks” outta the case. I just posted a similar remark on another blog prior to reading this. Aren’t we just referring to 1 Greek in particular, though? There is only 1 sole Greek owner here.
