Taqueria El Vecino Resurrects Crescent Moon Brunch

    Decatur Metro | April 7, 2014 | 11:20 am

I linked to a Decaturish post about this a few days back – which hundreds of you clicked on – but I’m still receiving a few inquiries asking about the rumors they’ve heard about return of Crescent Moon Brunch.

Well, here’s the full brunch menu!

And here’s a release I received a couple of days back.

Sunday April 6, 2014, Crescent Moon’s legendary Sunday Brunch is back!

Rob Atherholt, previous owner of Crescent Moon, has brought back your favorite Moon Brunch goodies to Oak Grove!

Sunday Brunch features Benedicts such as Arnold’s Eggs, Huevos de Diego and Popeye’s Plate, along with the breakfast standards that Crescent Moon was known for. Challah French Toast, omelets and heaps round out the offerings. A full line of espresso drinks, Bloody Marys and Mimosas are brunch favorites as well as a full bar with several local beers.

Brunch begins Sunday, April 6, 2014, 11-3. Join Us!

Decatur Diner Employees Tell Hispanic Newspaper They Aren’t Being Paid

    Decatur Metro | October 24, 2011 | 12:36 pm

LooneyMooney points to this extensive article about business practices at Decatur Diner from Atlanta’s Hispanic news source, Mundo Hispanico today.  Here’s a blurb that’s been translated by Google Translate…

Workers say a restaurant for over two months without receiving their wages.

At least 10 Diner Decatur Hispanic workers say this restaurant is not been paid in five weeks.

In addition, most of them claim that their employer paid six dollars an hour, when the minimum wage by law is 7.50.

These workers MundoHispánico told the restaurant owners have promised to pay off your debt on several occasions but that such agreements are only promises.

If anyone wants to provide a better translation, they’re welcome to.

If you weren’t around for the related Crescent Moon saga a couple years back, you can get caught up HERE.

    Biscuits & Politics

    Decatur Metro | March 23, 2009 | 9:30 am

Decaturite and AJC food critic John Kessler writes the sordid and complex history of Thumbs Up and Crescent Moon…and Thumbs Up restaurant over in Access Atlanta this morning.

Not that you need reminding, but when Crescent Moon blew up last year, DM inadvertantly became a clearinghouse of info and debate, thanks to frequent postings by wait staff like Looney Mooney and MyFavoriteWaitress, who eventually went on strike.  Hope they are much happier today!

AJC Picks Up Crescent Moon's Tale of Woe and Rebirth

    Decatur Metro | October 30, 2008 | 3:00 pm

    Here it is.

Frequent DM readers will find both old and new info.  Probably most important, Rob says they should reopen as Thumbs Up in two to three weeks.

UPDATE: Rob Takes Back Crescent Moon

    Decatur Metro | October 20, 2008 | 1:30 pm

UPDATE: Steve…Carl sees your tip off and raises you a pic of the sign.   From the wording it sounds like they’ll be reopening under the same name.

Steve writes in that the previous report about Crescent Moon closing and becoming a Thumbs Up Diner may in fact be true.

“Apparently the rumor is in fact true. There are signs on the window today stating that Crescent Moon is closed, but will reopen after some remodeling with Rob in charge. (Carl, I can’t believe you didn’t scoop this)”

This new piece of evidence certainly seems to jive with the old rumor, but doesn’t yet confirm it will be a Thumbs Up.

Thumbs Up Diner to Replace Crescent Moon? – NOPE

    Decatur Metro | October 17, 2008 | 8:48 am

UPDATE: Apparently the rumor is false.

Long Time Crescent Moon Waitress reports in with an update…

“crescent moon is SUPPOSED to be closing for good after sunday and rob is going to be leasing the spot out to THUMBS UP. i believe that this is really what is going to happen and i also feel like it will be a very great thing for all of us who are looking for a great place to have brunch again. keep your eyes open it should not take very much longer.”

Anyone want to confirm or deny?

Right now Thumbs Up Diner has three locations: on Edgewood Ave, Marietta St. and in East Point.  An Avondale Estates location recently closed due to the sale of the property…so it makes sense that they would look to reopen in the area.

Crescent Moon Closed Due to "Kitchen Failure" UPDATE: Now Open

    Decatur Metro | September 14, 2008 | 9:08 pm

So, I am told by a friend, says a sign on the door.

UPDATE: While a friend told me that a sign said “closed until further notice”, reliable commenters are now telling me the sign just says “kitchen failure”.

Not sure if that’s because the sign changed, or if I just misheard.

UPDATE II: Steve reports in the comments that the Moon in Decatur is again open.

UPDATE III: A comment over in the AtlantaCuisine forums (spawned from a previous post here) says that a sign at the Mall o’ Georgia location says its closed as of Monday…though they weren’t sure it was permanant.
