    PiratePalooza May Be Off-Course

    Decatur Metro | September 14, 2008

A cunning spy (a.k.a. Carl) points us to the secret details for 2008’s PiratePalooza, which has been invading Decatur for the past four years…arrgh. Original plans called for this year’s pillaging to begin at the Grange on Saturday, Sept. 20th at 4:30p, and for Captain Drew to lead all scoundrels, dogs, wenches and landlubbers to Eddie’s Attic, the Brick Store and then back to the Grange.

However, now it sounds like plans for using the Grange as their secret lair may be up in the air. (Arrrr…I’m eh poet and don’t even know it)

    Stay tuned mates…

UPDATE: Perhaps my quickest update ever! A check of InDecatur provides this link, which makes it sound like the Palooza might be canceled altogether. Arrgh?!

Blah. The “pirates” are a bunch of grown folk who run around acting like lunatics for a day as if they own the town. Good on them, I’ve always thought, until I heard from friends who own local businesses who talk of an endless day of idiots in shoddy costumes trolling Decatur offering to pay in plastic dubloons rather than money. Then I came across some of “Captain Drew’s” Yelp posts which show his out-of-season Halloween schtick happens all year ’round.

      What fun.

As noted by InDecatur, the event will now end at James Joyce in Avondale, instead of the Grange.
