Chocolate Bar Chef to Open "Gastropub" in L5P
Decatur Metro | August 3, 2008InDecatur reported a while back that Nick Rutherford, chef at the critically-acclaimed Chocolate Bar, was leaving.
Well, a quote from the Inman Park newsletter over on AtlantaCuisine’s forums give us the tip-off as to where he’s going…
Molly Gunn and Nick Rutherford discussed their plans to open a restaurant called “Porter” in the former Bridgetown Grille/Grandma Luke’s location. The couple have lived in Inman Park for two years, and are long-time residents of Atlanta and have worked in many of the city’s finest restaurants. The restaurant will feature a beer bar with 20 on tap and 100 in bottles but the main focus is great food. Nick will be the chef (he is currently the chef at The Chocolate Bar in Decatur). They plan to open early September and have applied for their building permit. They will close Mon-Wed at 10:30 pm and Thurs-Sat at 2:30 am. They will serve brunch on the weekend. Their main focus is 80% food revenue…. they hope to attract other restaurant employees who are looking for a place to dine after their shift is over. Molly said if it ends up being mostly alcohol revenue late at night they will change their hours, because it will be a restaurant not a bar.
Molly and Nick’s new spot in the heart of L5P is called “The Porter” and though they’re not scheduled to open until next month, their menu is already online at their website.
Our loss is Little 5′s gain! Guess it would be been hard to open a similar concept here in Decatur, especially with the Brick’s similar future plans at the old Rue de Leon.
Best of luck to Nick and Molly.
