The Chi Renewed for Season 8

Douda’s Chapter Closes, But “The Chi” Marches On

The popular series “The Chi” is set to return, with a renewal for an eighth season confirmed by Deadline, a partner publication.

This announcement came shortly after the network revealed that the debut of Season 7 of “The Chi” attracted two million viewers across various platforms, setting a new record for the most-watched season premiere in the show’s history, with a slight increase of 2% from the previous season.

“With viewership reaching new heights, we are excited to confirm that ‘The Chi’ will return for Season 8, securing its place alongside some of Showtime’s most legendary series such as ‘Homeland’ and ‘Dexter’,” stated Chris McCarthy, Co-CEO of Paramount Global and President of Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios. “We owe this success to [series creator] Lena Waithe and her outstanding team, our skilled cast and crew, and, of course, the dedicated fans. The narrative of the South Side will persist!”

Preparations for the latest season began early with the Season 8 writers’ room opening in February, well ahead of the premiere of Season 7.

“The Chi” is a poignant tale of growing up on the South Side of Chicago, where the lives of several residents intertwine by chance but are united by their shared need for connection and redemption.

The show features a dynamic ensemble cast, including Jacob Latimore as Emmett, Lynn Whitfield as Alicia, Yolonda Ross as Jada, Shamon Brown Jr. as Papa, Michael V. Epps as Jake, Birgundi Baker as Kiesha, and Luke James as Trig.
