Dr. Will Halstead Makes a Comeback to Chicago

Dr. Will Halstead is set to reappear in the bustling streets of Chicago.

As an original ensemble member of Chicago Med, Nick Gehlfuss is slated to make a guest appearance in the eleventh season of the NBC drama series, according to Deadline. The exact number of episodes featuring Gehlfuss remains undisclosed. (TVLine has contacted NBC seeking further details.)

Portraying Dr. Halstead since the show’s debut in 2015 until 2023, Gehlfuss departed following the finale of Season 8. His character was last seen in Seattle, reuniting romantically with Dr. Natalie Manning (played by Torrey DeVitto) and taking on a fatherly role to her son, Owen (played by Ari Morgan).

Anticipating More Returns in Season 11

This announcement about Gehlfuss’ return aligns with comments from Chicago Med showrunner Allen MacDonald, who hinted to TVLine in May about his plans to reintroduce “another original cast member or two” in Season 11. The show had already brought back some familiar faces in Season 10, including Rachel DiPillo, who exited in Season 4 but returned to reprise her role as Dr. Charles’ former psychiatric resident, Dr. Sarah Reese. Additionally, Mekia Cox, who left after Season 5, came back as Dr. Charles’ daughter, Robin.

The eleventh season of Chicago Med is scheduled to premiere on Wednesday, October 1 at 8/7c on NBC.
