Law & Order: SVU Season 27: Everything We Know So Far

The 26th season of Law & Order: SVU has wrapped up, ushering in the anticipation for what’s next in this iconic NBC series.

The season finale of SVU offered little in terms of dramatic cliffhangers but captivated viewers with a disturbing case involving therapists and a perpetrator with a gruesome modus operandi. Meanwhile, the team celebrated as Velasco was elevated to detective second grade, marking his promotion with festivities at both a local bar and the official NYPD ceremony. (Detailed recap available here.)

In May, the network confirmed the renewal of SVU, along with several changes to the cast and crew. As fans eagerly await the return of the squad in Season 27, questions mount about who will return and when the new season will premiere.

Keep reading for all the confirmed details about the upcoming adventures of Benson and her team. We’ll continue to update this article with new information as it becomes available, so be sure to check back frequently.

RETURNING CAST MEMBERS FOR LAW & ORDER: SVU SEASON 27

Mariska Hargitay (Capt. Olivia Benson), Ice-T (Sgt. Odafin Tutuola), Kevin Kane (Det. Terry Bruno), and Peter Scanavino (Assistant District Attorney Dominick “Sonny” Carisi) are all set to return as regulars next season.

However, Octavio Pisano (Det. Joe Velasco) and Juliana Aidén Martinez (Det. Kate Silva) will not be part of Season 27’s lineup. Despite their absence not being addressed in the Season 26 finale—where Velasco was notably promoted—both actors had been integral parts of the cast in previous seasons. (Full recap available.)

NEW ADDITIONS TO THE CAST OF LAW & ORDER: SVU SEASON 27

While no new cast members have been officially announced, Kelli Giddish will return as a series regular portraying Sgt. Amanda Rollins. Giddish, who first joined the show in Season 13 and briefly left after Season 24, had recurring appearances in the last two seasons. Hargitay has expressed strong support for Giddish’s return, highlighting the dynamic between Benson and Rollins as a highlight of the show.

Michele Fazekas will step in as the new showrunner, replacing David Graziano who managed Seasons 24 through 26. Fazekas is familiar with the series, having previously contributed as a writer and producer during Seasons 4 to 7.

Additionally, writer/executive producer Julie Martin and EP Norberto Barba will step down from their roles, though Barba will continue directing, according to reports from Deadline.
