The Morning Show Recap: Rickrolled and Reunited — Plus, Marion Cotillard Weighs in on Celine’s Big Shock

A Wild Opening on “The Morning Show”

Nobody in my circle seems to care that this week’s episode of The Morning Show kicked off with a wildly extravagant musical number featuring Yanko, complete with backup dancers, sweeping shots of New York City, and an overwhelming amount of confetti. But I’m grateful to have this space to share my thoughts, because it’s a scene we need to talk about!

The episode was packed with critical plot developments, but before we dive into those, let me paint a picture of the scene. Picture this: Yanko the Weatherman, performing an unusual spoken-word version of Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up.” As he moves his hips awkwardly, women in sleek black dresses dance around him, with projections of the Manhattan skyline lighting up the background, all culminating in Yanko kneeling with a ring box, proposing to his girlfriend (yes, you read that right) Ariana. And guess what? It’s all a rehearsal on the set of The Morning Show for the actual live proposal he plans to execute.

The Unfolding Chaos and Heartbreak

It’s sheer lunacy, and I absolutely adore it. Whenever The Morning Show decides to embrace its crazier side, it truly shines, and Nestor Carbonell’s commitment to this bizarre and hilarious act deserves applause.

Unfortunately, the actual proposal never occurs. Moments before going live, Yanko discovers that his past love, Claire, is back in town. Stick around as we explore more highlights from the episode “Love the Questions,” and don’t miss Marion Cotillard’s reaction to the major revelation Cory unveils to Celine towards the episode’s end.

Further drama unfolds as Alex’s father confronts her at her apartment, furious over a student journalist’s claim that Alex’s brother Martin plagiarized his book. Despite Alex’s attempt to negotiate with the journalist, named Justice, the situation remains unresolved because Alex refuses to secure a job at UBN for her, leading to a disappointing outcome with her father.

Meanwhile, all traces of the Wolf River story have been erased from the UBN archives. Chip updates Bradley on his findings about a lawyer involved in a lawsuit against a chemical company, who faced a smear campaign and subsequent death. This revelation occurs just as Alex discovers Bradley went behind her back, leading to a heated confrontation on set. Despite the chaos and a looming news story about a plane in danger, Yanko initially insists on proceeding with his proposal, hoping to offer viewers a positive story. However, the urgency of the plane situation takes precedence, and the proposal is abandoned, though Ariana was aware of it all along and takes it in stride after the show.

After her confrontation with Bradley, Alex demands concrete evidence within two weeks concerning the Wolf River story. In a strategic move, Bradley leverages her knowledge of an Extinction Revolt story to extract crucial information from Eagle News anchor Ashley Andrews. The information she receives implies Cory’s involvement in discrediting the lawyer, leaving Bradley in shock.

Cory, spending time with Celine, learns of her ambitions to become both the board president and CEO of UBN, a move even he never attempted. After some pressing, Cory reveals a scandal involving Stella and Miles, shaking the foundation of Celine’s personal and professional life.

In an interview, Cotillard, portraying a French board member, shared her insights into Celine’s reaction to her husband’s betrayal. Initially uncertain, Cotillard decided that Celine had suspicions but chose to ignore them, focusing instead on her power and the love she thought was solid. When the truth comes out, Celine’s devastation is directed not just at the betrayal, but at herself for missing the signs, a twist that adds depth to her reaction.

This episode of The Morning Show perfectly blends high-stakes drama with personal turmoil, topped off with a sprinkle of its signature outrageous flair, making it an unforgettable hour of television.
