    Ladies Rock Camp Registration is Now Open!

    Ladies Rock Camp – an annual benefit that supports Girls Rock Camp over the summer – is back for another year!  Misses sends along the press release…

    Atlanta, GA – Join Atlanta-bred roots rocker Michelle Malone and the legendary Beverly “Guitar” Watkins February 17-19, at Ladies Rock Camp, the annual fundraiser for Girls Rock Camp ATL, the Atlanta-based non-profit organization dedicated to empowering girls and women of all backgrounds and abilities through music education, creative expression, and performance.

    The event is a three-day rock and roll fantasy experience where women learn to play an instrument, form a band, write a song together, and play a big rock concert finale. Beginners are absolutely encouraged to attend. Michelle Malone will be leading the songwriting workshop and will also be a floating band coach, giving participants tips, tricks, and pointers along the way. Beverly “Guitar” Watkins will play a private lunchtime set, making for a once-in-a-lifetime musical experience.

    Girls Rock Camp ATL Showcase Saturday July 16th!

    Vicki sends along all the info for the July 16th Girls Rock Camp Showcase and notes an extensive list of Decatur girls who’s parents gave permission to say they’d be participating: Kenzie Kandetzki, Brenna Hilby, Lizzy Cochran, Davis Crenshaw, McCall Pitts, Sydney Balcom, Athieno Ngowe, Nicole Revels.     Atlanta’s newest bands will rock The Loft, 1374 W. Peachtree St., at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, July 16, 2011, at the Girls Rock Camp ATL Showcase & Silent Auction, a benefit for Girls Rock Camp ATL, an non-profit music program that mentors girls.

    Tickets to the all-ages show are $15 and are available for purchase through girlsrockcampatl.org or by phone at 877-725-8849. Tickets also can be purchased at the venue box office in the Center Stage theater complex Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

    The Showcase & Silent Auction is the grand finale to Atlanta’s fourth annual Girls Rock Camp, a week-long summer program during which campers learn to play an instrument, form bands, attend workshops, and perform in a live concert. Friends, fans and family at the showcase will have the chance to bid on services, merchandise, artwork and experiences, including a Gretsch guitar, a cabin on the Sixthman Rombello music festival cruise featuring Michael Franti and Spearhead, G. Love and Special Sauce, and more.

    Decatur Girls Rock Showcase

    Nate writes in noting that both his daughter Davis Crenshaw and Sidney Rhame represented Decatur at this year’s Girls Rock Camp Showcase this past Saturday night at the Variety.  The AJC has a kickin’ gallery of photos, including the one of Crenshaw above.

    Like an idiot, I never posted the event announcement for the showcase this year after it got lost in the email shuffle.  My apologies!

    “Ladies Rock Camp” To Feature Songwriting Workshop w/ Emily Saliers

    In the midst of helping young Decatur musician Sydney Rhame win $1,000 from Kudzu last year, we also promoted “Girls Rock Camp”, a start-up non-profit founded by “long-time Decaturites” that assists young girls in starting bands and creating original music.

    Well, this year the organization is hosting a three day event for the 19 and older crowd!  “Ladies Rock Camp” is limited to 25 participants and will be held at Atlanta Charter Middle School features a culminating performance at L5P’s Five Spot and a songwriting workshop with the Indigo Girls Emily Saliers.

    No prior musical experience is necessary and tuition is just $350!
