Girls Rock Camp ATL Showcase Saturday July 16th!

    Decatur Metro | July 6, 2011 | 8:49 am

Vicki sends along all the info for the July 16th Girls Rock Camp Showcase and notes an extensive list of Decatur girls who’s parents gave permission to say they’d be participating: Kenzie Kandetzki, Brenna Hilby, Lizzy Cochran, Davis Crenshaw, McCall Pitts, Sydney Balcom, Athieno Ngowe, Nicole Revels. Here’s the info…

Atlanta’s newest bands will rock The Loft, 1374 W. Peachtree St., at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, July 16, 2011, at the Girls Rock Camp ATL Showcase & Silent Auction, a benefit for Girls Rock Camp ATL, an non-profit music program that mentors girls.

Tickets to the all-ages show are $15 and are available for purchase through girlsrockcampatl.org or by phone at 877-725-8849. Tickets also can be purchased at the venue box office in the Center Stage theater complex Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The Showcase & Silent Auction is the grand finale to Atlanta’s fourth annual Girls Rock Camp, a week-long summer program during which campers learn to play an instrument, form bands, attend workshops, and perform in a live concert. Friends, fans and family at the showcase will have the chance to bid on services, merchandise, artwork and experiences, including a Gretsch guitar, a cabin on the Sixthman Rombello music festival cruise featuring Michael Franti and Spearhead, G. Love and Special Sauce, and more.

Girls Rock Camp ATL is a six-day camp where girls ages 10-16 form bands, learn to play instruments, write original songs and rehearse for their public performance. Campers are instructed in guitar, bass, keyboards, or drums, and participate in workshops geared toward encouraging freedom of expression, positive self-image, and collaboration. Established visiting bands perform and answer questions for campers each day during their lunch hour. This year, 72- year old legendary Georgia-bred blues musician Beverly “Guitar” Watkins plays for campers Friday, July 15.
