The threat of black ice on the roads this morning has some schools closing and others delaying opening today.

Here’s what we know thus far of schools in and around Decatur (Full list from WSB here):

K-12 Public Schools

• Decatur and Atlanta schools are already off this week for winter break, but Decatur’s College Heights has a 10a delayed opening this morning.
• DeKalb County Schools are closed today, along with the other major public systems around Atlanta: Fulton, Gwinnett, and Cobb.

Area Colleges and Universities

• Agnes Scott College opening is delayed until 11a.
• Emory University opening is delayed until 11a.

From CSD’s Bruce Roaden…

School will not be in session at any Decatur buildings tomorrow, january 14, including College Heights Early Childhood Learning Center. Zero to three child care providers at College Heights should not report to work. 210 day. 225 day, and other 244 day employees should report to work no later than 10 am, driving conditions willing. Maintenance and custodial employees should report to the maintenance shop at 8 AM. Please contact your supervisor if you have any questions. Be safe and warm.

Just received word from CSD’s Bruce Roaden that Decatur schools will indeed join the growing list of school systems that will be closed again on Tuesday.

From all the weather reports, this looks like it could go on all week.  Ugh.

WSB is now reporting that both City of Decatur and DeKalb County Schools will be closed tomorrow.  (Yes, I essentially just repeated the title of the post.)

Decatur City Schools Delayed Opening Today 2 hours

RMS teacher Kris Thornton-Webb forwards this note from the City Schools of Decatur regarding an early close today…

Families Children in pre-Kindergarten through grade 12 will be dismissed one hour early today, February 12, 2010, in anticipation of adverse weather conditions this afternoon. All buses will run their routes one hour earlier. College Heights birth through age 3 will close at 3 o’clock. YMCA and Decatur Children and Youth Services after school programs that includes Animal Crackers, Whiz Kids, and Project Real, will not be in session today.

Staff Children in pre-Kindergarten through grade 12 will be dismissed hour early today, February 12, 2010, in anticipation of adverse weather conditions this afternoon. All buses will run their routes one hour earlier. Staff members may leave when the students have left their building. Please know YMCA and Decatur Children and Youth Services after school programs that includes Animal Crackers, Whiz Kids, and Project Real, will not be in session today. UPDATE IV: The library itself says it opened at noon today.

UPDATE III: DeKalb Commissioner Jeff Rader’s Office reports that both DeKalb libraries and DeKalb Recorders Court are closed today.

UPDATE II: Emory University is now CLOSED today.  Emory Healthcare remains open.

UPDATE: Agnes Scott College is also closed today.  Emory has delayed opening ’til 11am.

Looks like the 20% of you who predicted between one and two inches of snow were right!

And since it’s freezing cold outside AND the snow is sticking, most schools are closed today, including City Schools of Decatur and DeKalb County Schools.

So, I guess it’s time to make those dreaded “alternative arrangements.”
