Lost sled – sentimental value

My kids and about a dozen of their closest friends took my Dad’s sled out to the cemetery on Monday and managed to come home without it.

After being trapped in the house for a week, I think many of us are just chock-full of suggestions for how to better prepare for the next snow/ice storm.  Bob writes in with a request…

I would like a dedicated thread for suggestions to the City of Decatur…on what they might do to prepare for the next snow storm. I think more could be done without costing an arm and a leg.

I’m always up for a constructive exercise that aims at bettering ourselves and the community.  (Lord, that sounded a bit sappy.  Even for me.)  But I’d like to expand it beyond just suggestions for the city, and also open up the virtual floor to suggestions for neighborhood groups and each other.  For example, how can we encourage more residents to shovel sidewalks after a storm?  Perhaps we could create shovel-exchange centers in neighborhoods and folks could leave their ID and take a shovel for an hour or two?

I dunno.  Just thinking out-loud.

Let’s hope that this is the last one of these posts we’ll need for a long time!

School will not be in session at any Decatur buildings tomorrow, january 14, including College Heights Early Childhood Learning Center. Zero to three child care providers at College Heights should not report to work. 210 day. 225 day, and other 244 day employees should report to work no later than 10 am, driving conditions willing. Maintenance and custodial employees should report to the maintenance shop at 8 AM. Please contact your supervisor if you have any questions. Be safe and warm.

Most Decatur-area businesses have reopened at this point, so I’m not sure we need to continue the “which businesses are open?” post.  However, no one needs me to tell them that the road situation is still a mess.

So, feel free to use this new post to update your fellow neighbors on road conditions in and around Decatur.
