Season 21 of Project Runway Faces a Challenging Team Task
The contestants of Project Runway Season 21 are gearing up for another group challenge that could potentially test their mettle. Here’s a brief overview of the situation.
The episode kicks off with the revelation of last week’s elimination, where Alex was sent packing due to her incomplete kimono-inspired outfit. Her exit was rather low-key – it’s early in the season, and we hadn’t really gotten a chance to connect with her yet.
This week, hosts Christian and Heidi present the new challenge: The designers are tasked with transforming mundane materials such as grey wool and tough denim into exquisite garments worthy of celebrity guest judge Sofia Vergara. The twist remains the same as they will have to operate in designated groups or ‘fashion houses.’

Ethan and Jesus are selected as leaders of their respective fashion houses, choosing team members to face the group challenge together. Jesus opts for a sophisticated approach, directing his team to craft a wool-based collection inspired by a Colombian flower, emphasizing structure and volume. On the flip side, Ethan’s team stumbles as they attempt to create a denim-based collection around the theme of “showstoppers,” which unfortunately translates into a questionable array of fringed outfits.
The standout performers were Jesus, Antonio, and Belania, whose luxurious wool designs caught everyone’s attention. Fashion expert Law Roach was particularly impressed, mentioning he could envision Zendaya in Belania’s outfit, a design he claimed he would remember forever. Belania, buoyed by Law’s enthusiastic feedback, clinched the title of challenge winner.
Conversely, the bottom performers faced harsh criticism for their creations. Angelo’s uneven corset, Joan’s tattered dress, and Ethan’s odd jumpsuit—which Law likened to a dilated cervix—did not sit well with the judges. Law expressed his disappointment vividly, frustrated at having to witness such lackluster designs despite arriving in high style himself. Heidi summed up the dismal showing by describing it as a “denim costume party” and hinted that it might be time for the failing designers to exit, marking a dramatic end to the episode.
