In a surprising and pleasant turn of events, Shemar Moore will not be the sole S.W.A.T. cast member transitioning to the new spinoff series, S.W.A.T. EXILES. Initially, it appeared he would be the only one making the move.
As per a report by Variety, Jay Harrington and Patrick St. Espirit are set to come back as Sergeant David “Deacon” Kay and Commander Robert Hicks, respectively. They are scheduled to appear as guest stars in the pilot episode. Both actors have been integral to the original S.W.A.T. ensemble throughout its eight seasons on CBS.
Harrington shared his feelings with TVLine shortly after the announcement of S.W.A.T. EXILES in June. He revealed a tinge of disappointment at not being a regular part of the spinoff.

“With the years I’ve spent in this industry, I’ve learned that you aren’t necessarily entitled to anything just because of your tenure. If this is the creative direction they choose, I hope it does well… My initial disappointment was mainly because our involvement wasn’t even hinted at when the show was first announced. But that feeling was fleeting, as I decided not to dwell on it and instead remember the solid eight years of hard work we all put in,” Harrington explained.
The upcoming series S.W.A.T. EXILES will feature Moore reprising his role as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson. According to the official description, “Following a botched high-stakes mission, Hondo is yanked from a forced retirement to head an experimental S.W.A.T. team comprising raw and unruly recruits. Hondo must overcome generational gaps, manage conflicting personalities, and mould these misfits into a cohesive unit capable of safeguarding the city and preserving the very program that defined him.”
Details such as the premiere date and distribution platform for S.W.A.T. EXILES are still under wraps.
