The highly anticipated Stuart Fails to Save the Universe has been greenlit by HBO Max.

On July 9, the streaming platform confirmed the series order for the spinoff of Big Bang Theory, featuring original cast member Kevin Sussman. The development of the new series by Chuck Lorre was first hinted at over two years ago as a project “stemming from” the beloved CBS sitcom. Later, it was disclosed that Lorre was collaborating with Bill Prady, who co-created the original series, and screenwriter Zak Penn.

“We are thrilled to extend the narrative of The Big Bang Theory,” expressed Casey Bloys, the chairman and CEO of HBO and HBO Max Content. “This new installment wouldn’t have been possible without the imaginative genius of Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, and Zak Penn, who brings a fresh perspective and unique voice to an already stellar team.”

Channing Dungey, chairman and CEO of Warner Bros. Television Group and WBD U.S. Networks, added, “Chuck and Bill have created a timeless comedy with The Big Bang Theory, and we are eager to see this universe expand with the new series. Zak Penn, a skilled storyteller, ensures that this new chapter will resonate with what fans adored about the original, while also introducing a novel twist. We’re grateful to HBO Max for embarking on this exciting journey with us.”
