Noah Wyle Wins First Career Emmy for HBO Max’s The Pitt

On his sixth attempt, Noah Wyle finally captured his first Emmy on Sunday, thanks to his standout role in The Pitt.

Previously nominated five times for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Dr. John Carter in NBC’s ER, Wyle received his inaugural nod as a Lead Actor after 26 years for his role as Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch in the HBO Max series.

He was up against notable actors such as Sterling K. Brown from Paradise, Gary Oldman in Slow Horses, Pedro Pascal of The Last of Us, and Adam Scott from Severance. Many considered the competition largely a head-to-head battle between Wyle and Scott.

The Pitt was first introduced to audiences in January. It is depicted as a true-to-life portrayal of the challenges that healthcare professionals face in modern-day America, all set within the hectic environment of a Pittsburgh-based hospital. The narrative unfolds in real time, similar to 24, with each episode capturing an hour of a shift in the emergency department.

In its debut season, the show secured 13 Emmy nominations and clinched five awards, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Supporting Actress for Katherine LaNasa, and Outstanding Guest Actor for Shawn Hatosy, who was honored at the Creative Arts ceremony. TVLine has praised it as the top current medical drama on television and also recognized Wyle as Performer of the Week after Robby’s emotional turmoil in Episode 13.

The second season of The Pitt is scheduled for a January release. Check out our Season 1 finale Q&A with Wyle below, and share your thoughts on his Emmy victory in the comments.
