Rick Davies, co-founder and lead vocalist of the British rock band Supertramp, passed away on Saturday, September 6th. He was 81 years old.
“Rick Davies, the founder, lead singer, and songwriter of Supertramp, died on Saturday, September 6th at the age of 81 after a more than decade-long battle with multiple myeloma,” the band announced on their Facebook page. “He was the voice and pianist behind some of Supertramp’s most iconic songs, making an indelible mark on the history of rock music,” The singer passed away at his home in Long Island, USA.

Rick Davies established Supertramp in 1969 alongside guitarist Richard Palmer, drummer Robert Millar, and singer-bassist Roger Hodgson. Supertramp achieved worldwide success in the late 1970s with the album Breakfast in America, which won two Grammy Awards. The band disbanded in 1988 following their final world tour, only to reunite towards the end of the 1990s.
“Rick’s music and legacy continue to inspire many people and are a testament to the fact that great songs never die; they live on,” the band stated in their release.
