Fox Cancels ‘The Great North’ After Five Seasons

The popular animated series The Great North has been discontinued by Fox after a five-season run, as confirmed by TVLine.

Fox president Michael Thorn expressed his gratitude for the efforts of Wendy Molyneux, Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin, Loren Bouchard, and the exceptional cast and crew involved in the production of The Great North. “It’s hard to part ways with such a delightful series, but we are appreciative of the laughter and joy it added to our Animation Domination block over its five-season span,” Thorn stated.

The decision to cancel the show was initially shared on Bluesky by Aimee Steinberger, a director of several episodes. Steinberger expressed her disappointment, saying, “Today we received the sad news that The Great North is officially ending. It’s disheartening. This show is one of the few I’ve been part of that I truly adored, and I cherished working with our incredibly talented team. I feel fortunate to have been a part of it.”

Steinberger also highlighted the show’s unique warmth and positivity. “In a landscape filled with cynical and harsh content, The Great North stood out by portraying a loving and supportive family dynamic. I hope to continue working on shows that promote these values, whether they focus on biological or chosen families,” she added.

In its last season, The Great North managed an average viewership of 532,000, including delayed playback, only an 8% drop from the previous year. Despite this, it was the least-watched among the nine comedy series aired by Fox during the 2024–2025 TV season and was also the lowest-rated scripted program on the network.

About ‘The Great North’

Created by notable figures from Bob’s Burgers—Wendy Molyneux, Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin—and Regular Show‘s Minty Lewis, The Great North debuted in January 2021. The series set in Alaska, follows the adventures of the Tobin family, with Nick Offerman voicing the single father Beef who tries his best to keep his kids close. The voice cast also boasted talents like Jenny Slate, Will Forte, Dulcé Sloan, Paul Rust, and Aparna Nancherla.

The series concluded with its fifth season finale on September 14. Despite the cancellation of The Great North, Fox continues to feature a robust lineup of animated series, including long-standing shows and newer renewals such as Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, Grimsburg, Krapopolis, The Simpsons, and Universal Basic Guys.

In addition, American Dad!, which has been airing new episodes on TBS for the past decade, is set to return to Fox, with renewals confirmed through the 2028-29 season.
