Dick Wolf’s On Call Cancelled After One Season at Amazon — Could It Be Saved by Another Streamer?

End of the Road for Long Beach Police Series

Prime Video has decided to discontinue On Call, a police drama from Dick Wolf, as reported by Deadline. Officers Traci Harmon and Alex Diaz, portrayed by actors in the show, will consequently be absent from the screens and the streets of Long Beach, California.

The show was halted just four months following the debut of its first season, which featured a total of eight episodes and premiered on January 9.

Possibilities for a New Home

Despite the cancellation, there is still hope for the series as it is currently being offered to other streaming platforms. According to Deadline, discussions are underway, particularly with Peacock—which already hosts other series from Wolf, such as Law & Order and the #OneChicago series—about possibly picking up On Call for a second season.

About On Call

Developed by Tim Walsh and Elliot Wolf, with Dick Wolf serving as an executive producer, On Call is an intense police drama. The series provides a raw and authentic look at law enforcement by following the lives of both a rookie and a seasoned officer in Long Beach. It uniquely utilizes body-cam, dash-cam, and cellphone footage to deliver a cinema verité style that offers a gritty, first-person perspective and delves into the ethical dilemmas faced by those in law enforcement.

The Cast

The series features Troian Bellisario of Pretty Little Liars fame as Officer Traci Harmon, a dedicated and experienced officer who faces challenges in balancing her professional responsibilities with mentoring new recruits. Brandon Larracuente, known for his role in The Good Doctor, stars as Alex Diaz, the hopeful yet realistic rookie navigating the complexities of modern-day policing.

The show also includes notable contributions from Eriq La Salle (ER) as Sergeant Lasman, Lori Loughlin (Full House) as Lieutenant Bishop, and Rich Ting (Tulsa King) as Sergeant Koyama, all of whom play pivotal roles in the series, enriching the narrative and depth of the storyline.
