Hulu’s new take on Buffy has recently expanded its cast with the addition of several key actors, according to TVLine. The lineup now boasts talent from Severance, Major Crimes, and even Frasier.

Among the newcomers, Sarah Bock from Severance will portray Gracie, while Ava Jean, known from Law & Order: SVU, will take on the role of Larkin. Faly Rakotohavana, previously seen in Unprisoned and Raven’s Home, will join as Hugo. All three actors have been signed as series regulars. Although specific details about their characters are still under wraps, these roles seem to align with earlier reports from TVLine about the new Slayer’s inner circle.

Additionally, Jack Cutmore-Scott, recognized from his roles in Frasier and Deception, is set to play Mr. Burke, who might fill a mentor role similar to that of Giles from the original series. Daniel di Tomasso from Major Crimes will also join as a character named Abe, further expanding the regular cast.

The reboot, which is poised to continue the Buffy saga, may see Sarah Michelle Gellar making appearances as the iconic Buffy Summers, now stepping into a recurring guest role. The focus shifts to a new Slayer, portrayed by Ryan Kiera Armstrong from Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, described as an intellectual and thoughtful teenager, perhaps more reminiscent of Willow than Buffy herself. Specifics about the plot are still pending.

Oscar-winning director Chloé Zhao, celebrated for her work on Nomadland in 2020, is attached to direct and executive-produce this venture. Joining her as executive producers are Gellar, Gail Berman, Fran Kuzui, Kaz Kuzui, and Dolly Parton, all of whom were executive producers on the original Buffy series.

While it’s confirmed that Gellar will return in some capacity, other original cast members have not yet been announced as part of the reboot. Gellar hinted at a blend of familiar and new characters, expressing a desire to revive many beloved characters that met their demise in the original series, though she acknowledged the need to also introduce new narratives.
