Prepare for the arrival of not one, but five colossal alien species as they are set to invade our planet in the latest teaser for Hulu’s Alien: Earth series.
Initially revealed over four years ago, the Alien: Earth series, rooted in the iconic 45-year-old movie saga, is slated for a summer release on Hulu. The recent teaser unveils the cargo section of a spacecraft filled with five separate enclosures, each struggling to contain a different alien species. The most prominent container appears to house a familiar type of xenomorph, reminiscent of those seen in the original Alien movies.
An earlier teaser, aired during the NFL AFC Championship game on CBS in late January, presented a xenomorph’s perspective as it navigated the passageways and ventilation systems of the USCSS Maginot, while the Weyland-Yutani spacecraft descended towards Earth.

-
Origins of Alien: Earth
The series was unveiled at the Disney Investor Day in December 2020, crafted by Noah Hawley (known for FX’s Fargo and Legion) and in collaboration with Sir Ridley Scott, the director behind the groundbreaking original Alien film. At that time, FX Networks chief John Landgraf shared that the series would be situated “not too far into our future” and marked as the first Alien narrative set on Earth. It was officially titled Alien: Earth in July 2024.
-
Timeline of Alien: Earth
This series is positioned nearly a century forward and thirty years before the events of the original film starring Sigourney Weaver, directed by Scott. This is in contrast to the previous year’s Alien: Romulus movie, which was set between the original Alien and its sequel, Aliens, directed by James Cameron.
The narrative of Alien: Earth unfolds in 2120, a time when five mega-corporations—Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic, and Threshold—hold the influence of nations, and breakthroughs in technology herald a promising future, according to a newly released synopsis that sets the series’ timeline.

Plot Details of Alien: Earth
Unlike its predecessors set in the remote recesses of space, this series takes place on Earth and explores the rise of the notorious Weyland-Yutani Corporation alongside the inter-corporate competition to develop new forms of android life.
The official storyline reveals: “Following the crash-landing of a mysterious space vessel on Earth, a young woman (played by Sydney Chandler) and a diverse team of tactical soldiers stumble upon a crucial discovery that introduces them to the most formidable threat to the planet yet. As the crash recovery team sifts through the debris for survivors, they encounter enigmatic predatory entities far beyond their worst fears. This newfound menace forces the team into a desperate struggle for survival, and their decisions regarding this discovery could irrevocably alter the fate of Earth.”
FX has hinted at a suspenseful and terrifying experience set in the not-too-distant future right here on Earth.
-
Focus of Alien: Earth
The narrative will align more closely with the first two Alien films rather than the Prometheus and Alien: Covenant prequels by Ridley Scott, according to Noah Hawley. He expressed to Variety in January 2024 that the original concept of the xenomorph as a ‘perfect life form’ resulting from millions of years of evolution is more compelling than the prequels’ portrayal of it as a recently created bioweapon.
Cast member Sandra Yi Sencindiver highlighted that fans of the first two films would find much to appreciate in the universe and world-building of this new rendition.

Main Cast of Alien: Earth
The series stars Sydney Chandler as Wendy, a unique metahuman hybrid with the physicality of an adult and the mind of a child, and Timothy Olyphant, rumored to be playing Kirsh, Wendy’s synthetic mentor and trainer.
Additional cast members include Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, David Rysdahl, Samuel Blenkin, Adarsh Gourav, Babou Ceesay, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diêm Camille, and Adrian Edmondson, among others. The guest star list features Richa Moorjani, Karen Aldridge, Enzo Cilenti, Max Rinehart, Amir Boutrous, Andy Yu, Michael Smiley, Jamie Bisping, Tanapol Chuksrida, Victoria Masoma, and Tom Moya.

Role of Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley in Alien: Earth
Noah Hawley clarified in a July 2021 Vanity Fair article that Ellen Ripley, the protagonist from the original Alien series, will not be part of his storyline. “It’s not a Ripley story. She’s one of the great characters of all time, and I think her story has been told quite perfectly. I don’t want to interfere with that,” he stated.

Longevity of Alien: Earth as a Series
Contrary to being a single miniseries, FX Networks chief Landgraf confirmed in January 2024 that Alien: Earth is intended to be a continuing series. He expressed a desire for Noah Hawley to dedicate himself to writing at least two seasons before potentially returning to a sixth season of Fargo.
Release Date for Alien: Earth
Shooting commenced in Thailand in July 2023 and concluded in July 2024. In a mid-July 2024 update to THR, Hawley mentioned, “I’m in post-production, editing rigorously. There’s a significant visual effects workload that needs time. But I’m very pleased with the series we’ve created. If the audience wanted a TV series based on the Alien universe, I believe we’ve got something special.”
As indicated in the teaser, the series is scheduled for a ‘Summer 2025’ release and will be available exclusively on Hulu.
