11Alive Features Decatur For “USA Today” Mention, Talks to Souper Jenny
Decatur Metro | January 24, 201411Alive’s Doug Richards did a nice piece on Decatur after USA Today ran its recent feature on the American Planning Association’s Great Neighborhoods being great spots for business travelers to check out.
The segment also includes a nice, little interview with Jenny Levison of Souper Jenny, as she works to open her new spot in the old Pita Pit space (Google streetview).
I’d embed the video in this post if I could, but I’m having some trouble making that happen for some reason. Something funky with 11alive’s code, I think.
I saw this yesterday. A very flattering segment. In a state that’s often near the bottom in various rankings, I feel fortunate to live in such an exceptional place as downtown Decatur.
Our 15 minutes of fame ( a la Warhol) are gonna be up soon, when the world discovers the next place.
“Our 15 minutes of fame ( a la Warhol) are gonna be up soon, when the world discovers the next place.”
Perhaps. But the long-term strategic plan will still be in place.
Fame can come and go. The fundamentals of the community are what matters, and require diligence.
These comments made me think of the State of the City address I’m preparing. The theme is: We are building our future on the foundation of our strategic plan–building community; building facilities; building people.
Everyone is welcome to the Decatur Business Assn meeting at the Marriott: reception at 5:15, program at 6:00.
Mayor Baskett, I am looking forward to it – see you there!
