Emory Releases Sketch of Rape Suspect

    Decatur Metro | February 18, 2014 | 10:47 am

11Alive did a video report on this over the weekend.  Having trouble embedding it, but you can view the full video on their website.  Here’s a blurb…

Emory University’s police department has released a composite sketch of the man who reportedly raped a student last week.

The rape happened Feb. 11 at around 11:15 p.m. in a wooded area of Emory’s campus near the information booth on Dowman Drive.

The victim described her attacker as a white man in his mid to late 50’s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a reddish-brown beard. He was wearing a brown knit cap, a tan or brown jacket, dark blue jeans and brown boots.

11Alive Features Decatur For “USA Today” Mention, Talks to Souper Jenny

    Decatur Metro | January 24, 2014 | 2:55 pm

11Alive’s Doug Richards did a nice piece on Decatur after USA Today ran its recent feature on the American Planning Association’s Great Neighborhoods being great spots for business travelers to check out.

The segment also includes a nice, little interview with Jenny Levison of Souper Jenny, as she works to open her new spot in the old Pita Pit space (Google streetview).

I’d embed the video in this post if I could, but I’m having some trouble making that happen for some reason.  Something funky with 11alive’s code, I think.

Family and Residents Demand Better Pedestrian Infrastructure Along N. Decatur Road After Death of Jianchang Wu

    Decatur Metro | July 1, 2013 | 10:38 am

11Alive’s John Gerard reported this morning on the death of Jianchang Wu, who he was hit by a car on North Decatur Road at Landover Drive last month.  The video features an heart-wrenching account of the accident from Mr. Wu’s wife and also an interview with neighbors who are now urging the county to improve pedestrian safety along the dangerous section of road.

You can go HERE to watch the segment that aired on 11Alive this morning.  You can also view the full interview with the family, which is located below the main story on that page.

As mentioned in the piece, the County has said that they will be sending a traffic investigation unit out to the site this week to review what can be done to slow traffic and improve pedestrian safety.  Assistant to both commissioners Jeff Rader and Kathie Gannon have sent notes to 11Alive and neighbors stating “We are going to ask Transportation to get out there next week to take a look at this and then to try to meet with city officials to share information before we have a larger gathering with neighbors. Just need to do some homework, but I will be in touch!”

    Stay tuned.
