Decatur Metro | June 13, 2013Gearing Up for SkaterAid 2013
Decatur Metro | June 13, 2013Cathy sends along this article announcing this years SkaterAid festivities…
The date for SkaterAid 2013 has been set! Mark your calendars for September 29, 2013.
SkaterAid is a local music, art, and skateboarding festival with a colorful vibe that appeals to a wide variety of people. Small children can engage in scavenger hunts and games, skateboarders can take advantage of custom-built ramps and compete for prizes, and adults can sample a great beer selection while bidding on unique artwork made from used skateboards. And all of the above can jam out to music from local bands.
Although SkaterAid is a lot of fun, there is a meaningful history behind the event. SkaterAid was started in 2005 to celebrate the life of Ian Wochatz, a Decatur teen and avid skateboarder who succumbed to brain cancer on July 4, 2005 at age 15. Since then, SkaterAid has provided a place for young people to celebrate their youth, whether flying through the air on a board, playing music, or hanging out with friends.
Creative Loafing Answers Readers’ Questions About Atlanta
Decatur Metro | June 13, 2013
OK, so I don’t usually post a million links to the same site, let alone the same feature. But Creative Loafing’s recent “Answer’s Issue” deserves to be linked to death. And in case anyone hadn’t picked up an issue from one of Decatur’s mandated green newspaper boxes, I thought I’d provide some easy access.
Here’s a sampling of questions/demands asked/stated by readers and then diligently answered by CL’s staff…
- Can we flood I-75/85 and create a waterfront for Atlanta?
- Why does Atlanta radio suck?
- What is the oldest multi-story building in Atlanta?
- Who is the Junkman’s Daughter?
- Why does 10th Street between I-75/85 and Northside Drive get resurfaced seemingly once a year, yet is still in a constant state of disrepair?
- Compare and contrast the Atlanta and Athens music scenes.
- What is the true story of how Murder Kroger earned its nickname?
- Why did it take so long for MARTA to get serious about having transit-oriented developments built around train stations?
