The Decatur Minute recently dished on the upcoming event…

Buy your tickets now to the annual Beach Party on Friday, June 14th brought to you by the good people at the Decatur Business Association.  Tickets are on sale now (here) or you can get them at the gate.

The event is an annual fundraiser and proceeds help fund other free events including the Easter Egg Hunt, Concerts on the Square, Blue Sky Concerts, and the Bonfire/Marshmallow Roast.  The proceeds are also used for projects that benefit the entire community on and around the Square and the 4^th of July fireworks!

In a note to the Decatur School Board as part of their July 11th meeting, Superintendent Phyllis Edwards writes…

A first step is to ask the Board to approve submitting the referendum to the City Commission. We are hopeful that we can meet the short timeline by getting this item to the City immediately. We are asking that it be reviewed the third week in July and perhaps the first week in August.

I have also requested a joint session by contacting Peggy Merriss. I am hopeful that at one of these sessions, we can present the Master Plan as decided at the May Board Meeting.

This will be a push to make sure that we meet all necessary dates. For this reason, this is a time sensitive issue.

The attached Master Plan is a two phase process, though I’m not entirely sure which plan was ultimately decided upon.

Decatur Commissioner Patti Garrett tells DM that she’s planning to run for re-election in the fall.  She was first elected to the commission back in 2009.

Commissioner Fred Boykin tells DM that he’s waiting until the end of June to make an official call.
