SkaterAid 2014

East Decatur Station (College Avenue, near the Avondale Marta Station) 

The 10th annual SkaterAid 2014 Skate & Music Festival at East Decatur Station is a fundraising event for the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children and honor the life of Ian Wochatz. There are a variety of volunteer positions and time slots available, including an early shift (2p-4:30p) and a late shift (4:30p-7p). There are also some earlier and later times for set-up and break-down. Contact Cathy Keeler at  to sign up for a volunteer shift. Today is the day that we hung all the collected art decks for SkaterAid’s silent art auction at the Brick Store Pub.  They will hang from this day up to the day of SkaterAid (9/29/13 2p-7p) at East Decatur Station.  We invite the community to come by and look at all of our beautiful, unique and cool art work.  Our website is www.skateraid.net and there is now a link for the on-line auction that starts the bidding!

The 9th annual SkaterAid 2013 Skate & Music Festival will be held on 9/29/13 (Sunday) 2:00p – 7:00pm at East Decatur Station to raise funds for the Brain Tumor Foundation for Children and honor the life of Ian Wochatz. This is the first call for volunteers. I am looking for volunteers to help out in many areas with this great Decatur event. We have an early shift (2p-4:30p) and a late shift (4:30p-7p), but also some earlier and later times for set-up and break-down. The date for SkaterAid 2013 has been set! Mark your calendars for September 29, 2013.

SkaterAid is a local music, art, and skateboarding festival with a colorful vibe that appeals to a wide variety of people. Small children can engage in scavenger hunts and games, skateboarders can take advantage of custom-built ramps and compete for prizes, and adults can sample a great beer selection while bidding on unique artwork made from used skateboards. And all of the above can jam out to music from local bands.

Although SkaterAid is a lot of fun, there is a meaningful history behind the event. SkaterAid was started in 2005 to celebrate the life of Ian Wochatz, a Decatur teen and avid skateboarder who succumbed to brain cancer on July 4, 2005 at age 15. Since then, SkaterAid has provided a place for young people to celebrate their youth, whether flying through the air on a board, playing music, or hanging out with friends.
