Alison Law Tapped for Role Alongside Program Director Philip Rafshoon

March 4, 2013 (Decatur) — The AJC Decatur Book Festival (AJC DBF) is proud to announce that Alison Law, an Atlanta-based writer and marketing consultant, will step into the role of AJC DBF Assistant Program Director, effective immediately.

Daren Wang, AJC DBF Executive Director, sings praises of Law. “Wow! Just wow! After just a couple days of watching Alison in action, I’m really knocked out by what a dynamo she is. She’s a fantastic addition to the team, and Philip, Diane, and I are grateful and honored to have her,” he said.

As owner of Alison Law Communications, Law has worked with a variety of clients, including published authors and book publicity firms, public relations and advertising agencies, attorneys, accountants, veterinarians, and other professional service providers.

Alison’s career began twenty years ago in a newsroom in her hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee. She spent almost seven years in various editorial and management positions at television stations in Chattanooga, Lexington, Kentucky and Baltimore, Maryland.

A long-time AJC DBF supporter and literary enthusiast, Law was a shoo-in for the role of Assistant Program Director. “The AJC Decatur Book Festival is the best living and breathing example I’ve seen of how books and storytelling create community. I’m a hardcore book nerd who’s attended the festival every year. I even postponed a beach vacation one year so that I could be in Decatur over Labor Day weekend!” She continued, “I consider the assistant programming job an unparalleled opportunity to work alongside and learn from industry leaders like Philip Rafshoon, Diane Capriola, Daren Wang and others on the festival team. We each bring a different set of skills and experience to the task of programming, but we share the same passion and enthusiasm for bringing people together through a love of the written word.”

In 2012, Alison combined her editorial, online marketing, and social media skills to launch SouthernSpines.com, an online community dedicated to celebrating and promoting Southern writers, songwriters, and poets, and what the site calls “Books with Backbone.” Alison is also a member of the She Reads Book Blogger network.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Decatur Book Festival Presented by DeKalb Medical (AJC DBF) is the largest independent book festival in the country, and the fourth largest overall. Over Labor Day weekend (Aug. 30-Sept. 1), tens of thousands from Metro Atlanta and beyond will share the historic downtown Decatur Square with world-class authors, illustrators, editors, publishers and booksellers for a weekend filled with literature, music, food, and fun.
