It’s Literally Wednesday: This and That

Dave | February 20, 2013

The Literary Feast

Piggybacking on Daren’s post from yesterday, next Tuesday is The Literary Feast, an incredibly fascinating fundraiser for the Decatur Education Foundation. To be held at The Iberian Pig, this will feature wine pairings, four courses, and four rotating authors: Amber Dermont (The Starboard Sea — one of the best books of 2012); Susan Puckett (author of the appropriate Eat Drink Delta: A Hungry Traveler’s Journey Through the Soul of the South); Susan Rebecca White (A Soft Place to Land and the theoretical Chicken Soup for the Weak); and Kevin Young (Ardency: A Chronicle of the Amistad Rebels and one of the nation’s most highly regarded poets). Reservations are still being accepted. This should be a great evening!

Quote of the Week (maybe even the year)

“You are, you never were and you never will be a company that treats people like people, publishers like partners and customers like kings. You are not a company that is committed to the cultural treasure of the book. You are not a company that has social and ethical principles.”

Christopher Schroer, publisher of art books in Germany, on firing Amazon

Decatur Book Festival Stuff

Under Program Director Philip Rafshoon, DBF’s Program Committee held its first meeting of the year yesterday. It’s only February, but folks are all inspired and really fired up. Only 191 days to go!

This Week

Poetry Atlanta Presents … Chelsea Rathburn, author of the collection A Raft of Grief, and James David May, poet and editor, tonight at 7:15pm, Decatur Library, sponsored by Georgia Center for the Book.

Frye Gaillard, author of The Books That Mattered: A Reader’s Memoir, Wednesday, February 20th, 7pm, Carter Presidential Library and Museum Theater, free.

As I always say (even in non-applicable situations!), let the AJC Food & More blog do the culling of Atlanta area chefs and restuaranteurs and then just pick out the ones with a Decatur relationship!  Here they are for 2013…

Outstanding restaurateur:

  • Ford Fry
  • Mike Klank and Eddie Hernandez, Taqueria del Sol

Best Chef Southeast:

  • Billy Allin, Cakes & Ale

Chai Pani Plans to Open March 1st

Decatur Metro | February 20, 2013

According to a post on Twitter, Chai Pani‘s new Decatur location plans to open its doors March 1st.  You can check out all the renovation action over on their Facebook page.

For now, here’s a pic of their new bathroom doors, via Twitter, to occupy a bit more white space.
