Will Clayton County Come to MARTA’s Aid?

    Decatur Metro | August 29, 2012

Interesting developments in Clayton County with two new county commissioners who support putting a referendum before county residents to join Fulton and DeKalb in contributing to the penny sales tax, which supports MARTA.

WABE reports that new commissioners Jeff Turner and Shana Rooks support the measure.  This is in sharp contrast to the two recently ousted incumbents who were opposed to such a measure.

A majority of Clayton’s five commissioners would have to support a measure to get it onto the November ballot.   Since the defeat of T-SPLOST last month, transit advocates have been lobbying Clayton to join MARTA.

The DBF is launching an app for the iPhone

    Darenw | August 29, 2012

    Yep, it’s finally here.

An interactive scheduling app, allows you to assemble a schedule, check what’s happening at any given time, and all kinds of other stuff.  Apple just approved it, so we’re hoping to not be sued for $1.05B.

Blind Dog Lost Near Avondale Estates

    Decatur Metro | August 28, 2012

    Nichole writes in…

I was hoping you could help get the word out about my neighbor’s lost dog. Her name is Pookie, she is a 13 year old blind Jack Russell mix. She somehow escaped her yard on Monday, Aug. 27th in the morning on the corner of Forrest Boulevard and Wiltshire near Avondale Estates. She is chipped, but was not wearing a collar.

What’s New? What’s Moved? at the Decatur Book Festival

    Decatur Metro | August 28, 2012

Looking at the Decatur Book Festival map for this year, I realized it might be informative/interesting to do a quick post about new locations and new features of the festival.

As you may know, the Decatur Courthouse green is currently under extensive revitalization, so it can’t play host to many of the stages and booths that it normally does.  As such, these spaces needed to be moved around.  According to DBF Director Daren Wang, the initial challenge helped reveal some new oppertunities in terms of space.  To quote him, “City Hall has been great to work with while we’ve adjusted to the new layout. It’s really helped us see some great new possibilities.”

As you can see from the map, there are a number of adjustments that are worth noting…

    1. Booths down West Ponce
    2. Children’s stage moved from the Square to down by the Courtyard by Marriott
    3. A “stroller corral” down by the Marriott
    4. A Bike Valet located on N. McDonough near the intersection with Trinity
    5. The teen stage is located over in front of the new Courthouse off the N. McDonough turn-around
    6. The acoustic music stage is located on the Birds from Hell Building Plaza (formerly known as Quizno’s Plaza)

Did we miss anything?  What else is new/moved?
