What’s New? What’s Moved? at the Decatur Book Festival

Decatur Metro | August 28, 2012

Looking at the Decatur Book Festival map for this year, I realized it might be informative/interesting to do a quick post about new locations and new features of the festival.

As you may know, the Decatur Courthouse green is currently under extensive revitalization, so it can’t play host to many of the stages and booths that it normally does.  As such, these spaces needed to be moved around.  According to DBF Director Daren Wang, the initial challenge helped reveal some new oppertunities in terms of space.  To quote him, “City Hall has been great to work with while we’ve adjusted to the new layout. It’s really helped us see some great new possibilities.”

As you can see from the map, there are a number of adjustments that are worth noting…

  1. Booths down West Ponce
  2. Children’s stage moved from the Square to down by the Courtyard by Marriott
  3. A “stroller corral” down by the Marriott
  4. A Bike Valet located on N. McDonough near the intersection with Trinity
  5. The teen stage is located over in front of the new Courthouse off the N. McDonough turn-around
  6. The acoustic music stage is located on the Birds from Hell Building Plaza (formerly known as Quizno’s Plaza)

Did we miss anything?  What else is new/moved?

Want to let folks know about the bike valet parking. Bicycle South is co-sponsoring it and it’s FREE to users. We also co-sponsored it at the Arts Festival last May and it was packed both days.

Cycling is a great way to get into downtown Decatur during these big events and now you have a free, secure place to park your bicycle. Hope it’s packed the entire Book Festival too.

After you park your bicycle, be sure to stop by the adjacent Active Living tent to find out about upcoming bike classes being offered in October, Team Decatur, and many more Active Living programs. Pick up a magnet and Bicycle Suitability Map too.

An acoustic stage competing with the Hell Birds? You may need to get those birds turned off for the duration!
