Man’s Body Found Near Mason Mill Park

Decatur Metro | January 24, 2012

I received a report from a reader that a Facebook friend had reported that a body was found in Mason Mill Park, north of Decatur, this afternoon.  This report in the AJC confirms it, though doesn’t provide much detail.

The eyewitness report noted that “DeKalb police are everywhere” in the afternoon.  She goes on to note that “all was fine” at 11am when she went to drop off books at the library “kids playing, etc”.  But when she returned with a book accidentally left in her car around 2p, she was “greeted by CSI units, DeKalb police and a funeral home van.”

The AJC report quotes DeKalb Police saying there was “no apparent cause of death”.

Ladies Rock Camp Registration is Now Open!

Decatur Metro | January 24, 2012

Ladies Rock Camp – an annual benefit that supports Girls Rock Camp over the summer – is back for another year!  Misses sends along the press release…

Atlanta, GA – Join Atlanta-bred roots rocker Michelle Malone and the legendary Beverly “Guitar” Watkins February 17-19, at Ladies Rock Camp, the annual fundraiser for Girls Rock Camp ATL, the Atlanta-based non-profit organization dedicated to empowering girls and women of all backgrounds and abilities through music education, creative expression, and performance.

The event is a three-day rock and roll fantasy experience where women learn to play an instrument, form a band, write a song together, and play a big rock concert finale. Beginners are absolutely encouraged to attend. Michelle Malone will be leading the songwriting workshop and will also be a floating band coach, giving participants tips, tricks, and pointers along the way. Beverly “Guitar” Watkins will play a private lunchtime set, making for a once-in-a-lifetime musical experience.

Watch Out Brick Store, Here Comes…Starbucks?

Decatur Metro | January 24, 2012

This is all over (what’s remaining of) the Atlanta blogosphere this morning, but Alex was good enough to send it along last night.  Reuters reported late yesterday that Starbucks will soon begin selling beer and wine at some locations around Atlanta and Southern California.  Here’s a blurb…

Starbucks is planning to add beer, wine and food such as savory snacks and hot flatbreads to the menus in four to six outlets in both Atlanta and Southern California.

The world’s biggest coffee chain started selling those items at a Seattle cafe in October 2010. Five stores in the Seattle area and one in Portland, Oregon, now offer the extended menu.

Interesting that the new test locations are Atlanta and S. California, no?  Do we have a drinking problem?

Anywho, the obvious question is – will the downtown Decatur location be one of these test locations?  That’s currently unknown, but I’ve heard rumblings over the last couple months that Starbucks employees have been telling patrons at the downtown location that the store would be closing for at least a month for a renovation some time in the near future.

Could they be related?
