Muddy Waters
Decatur Metro | October 26, 2010From Linda Harris on The Decatur Minute…
If you live in the City of Decatur and your water looks a little discolored, it may be because the Fire Department is testing all of the hydrants in the city. This is a required mandate that Decatur undertakes annually.
If you have questions, email Chief Toni Dixon toni.dixon@decaturga.com or call the Fire non-emergency number at 404-370-4141.
Don’t forget to run an empty load in your washing machine after you see red (water). We learned that the hard way a few years back.

A good time to remind folks not to ever leave the end of a garden hose in water. i.e. Tub, bucket, pond, pool etc.
When the city supply line pressure drops (like with hydrant tests) your home system can siphon the bacteria-rich untreated water backwards into the pipes. Bon Apetit!
Good advice. Plumbing code for many years have required anti-siphon devices on outdoor spigots, but of course most Decatur home were built before then. One may, however purchase them for installation where there are none.
