With Truex Going to Watershed, Repast to Close

Decatur Metro | June 18, 2010

Soon after we learned that chef Joe Truex would take over the culinary reins at Watershed, we were quickly reassured that he and his wife’s current venture “Repast” would remain open.  However, it seems that things have changed.

The faceless Besha Rodell reports on CL’s Omnivore…

I just spoke to Joe Truex, who delivered the sad news that Repast will be closing after tomorrow night’s service. Truex, who has owned Repast with his wife and co-chef Mihoko Obunai since early 2006, was announced as Scott Peacock’s replacement at Watershed in May. At that time, the couple announced that Obunai would continue as Repast’s chef and owner. But two months later, they feel that the economy and notoriously slow summer months cannot sustain the restaurant.

Where’d It Come From?

Decatur Metro | June 18, 2010

Mr. Chris Billingsley sends along a pic and writes…

I am seeking information on an item that is thought to be from Decatur Girls High. When this was delivered to Decatur High School two years ago, we were told that it was on display in the teachers lounge at Girls High. If you have any information on this item, please contact Mr. Chris Billingsley (cbillingsley@csdecatur.net) or respond to the blog. Thanks.

Personally, I’ve never heard of Decatur Girls High, but the DHS Alumni page references it.  Oh wait, was that when the high school was segregated between boys and girls?

The Death of the Downtown Grocery Dream?

Decatur Metro | June 18, 2010

Winnona Park Stud writes in…

You have been clamoring for a downtown grocery store.  Publix is moving into downtown Avondale Estates.

It will anchor a large mixed use development. with 2 to 3 Publix hovering on Decatur’s perimeter and a lil’ Kroger squarely within the critical zone, is this the nail in the downtown decatur grocery store dream coffin?
