The New Mason Mill Park

Decatur Metro | June 17, 2010

Dan notes this item in DeKalb Commissioner Rader’s most recent “Digest”…

The county has officially selected a contractor for construction to improve the day-use area of Mason Mill Park (30033). The construction costs, not to exceed $2.1 million, will be funded by the county parks bond.

The improvements include a full-scale play area, new dog park, relocated parking spaces, and improved storm water management. The day-use construction is the first phase of a $7 million master plan for the entire park….The plans reflect the consensus of county citizens at five public meetings from September 2008 to February 2010.

In conjunction with the day-use renovations, PATH has contracted for a path over the railroad tracks in Mason Mill Park in order to connect that park to Medlock Park.

See the Mason Mill Park Master Plan docs at the end of Mr. Rader’s full note.

The ground-breaking for these renovations will take place this Saturday June 19th at 11am at Mason Mill Park (1340 McConnell Drive, Decatur 30033-3539).

Residents to Discuss Sycamore Drive Traffic Calming Tonight

Decatur Metro | June 17, 2010

Over at InDecatur, Dave announces a meeting this evening at The Church of Decatur Heights at 7pm for residents to discuss potential traffic calming measures along Sycamore Drive between “Hilcrest and the south entrance to the parking deck at DeKalb Medical.”

Dave states that “the objective is to discourage through traffic (which can take Arcadia and Winn Way) and slow traffic to improve the safety of residents.”

And over on the Decatur Heights blog, he has posted all the different road-widths along that stretch of Sycamore and gives a specific example of what could potentially be done to slow cars down.

According to Dave, both City Manager Peggy Merriss and Asst. City Manager David Junger will be in attendance at the meeting.

The Best Burger

Decatur Metro | June 17, 2010

You don’t need AJC food writer John Kessler will tell you that hamburgers are the current “it” food.  Are they even called hamburgers anymore?

In a Recession, what’s old is new again.  And just like the traditional neighborhood is back en vogue with a vengeance, traditional comfort foods are also now the hottest ticket in town.

Enter the burger.  That old menu-standard saw its opening, got itself a new agent, and pulled a Beyonce on the chicken and fish.

Now there are entire restaurants and food stands all over the Metro dedicated to coming up with the most delicious variations on this most basic of ‘wichs.  From the old greasy standard to new-age, local, grass-fed version, the burger is hot.

“Yes”, you think, “I know all this.”

Well, all right then smarty-pants, let’s cut to the chase then.  With a trillion and one options today, where’s the best burger in Atlanta?
