Cakes & Ale To Renovate Three Retail Spots By Decatur MARTA Entry

Decatur Metro | March 24, 2010

Yes, the follow-up details to this story are big enough to warrant their own post!

Co-owner of Cakes & Ale, Kristin Allin, writes in…

Yes, we signed a lease yesterday to renovate three spaces by the entry to the MARTA. Cakes & Ale will take over the spot that is currently American Subs and the cellular store next to it. The bakery portion of the business will open in the current Panda Express location. Cakes & Ale will operate in the same manner as it is now, but will have a space for private dining and will have a patio along the side of the building on Church Street.

The bakery will open from morning to evening. Breakfast items will include scones, croissants, muffins, and other breakfast items. For lunch, we will bake our breads and some of our sandwiches in a wood-burning oven and will have a few other offerings such as sides, salads, and cookies. At night, the bakery will serve desserts and wines and act as more of a dessert bar. We will also have coffee and espresso drinks in the bakery.

The landlord will also clean up the lab location and remove all the old facades on these buildings, which will be great.

We hope to be in this fall.

Cakes & Ale Moving; Opening Bakery

Decatur Metro | March 24, 2010

This rumor has been floating for a while.  Especially after Kaleidoscope closed, but that idea died on the vine.  Looks like Cakes and Ale is ready to move and expand.  Twitter to retweeting this news like crazy.  Atlanta Magazine’s Bill Addison got the scoop.  He tweets…

Big news: Cakes & Ale is moving to slightly larger space in Decatur and opening a bakery helmed by Cynthia Wong. More deets soon #DecaturGa

Where are they moving?  What KIND of bakery?

I want deets!!  (And when I get them, I will post!)

D.C. Sqeaks By Atlanta In 2009 Census Estimates

Decatur Metro | March 24, 2010

Looks like Atlanta got just a little too comfortable in its #8 spot among the cities largest metro areas.

In what is barely receiving a mention in ATL’s major dailies, Atlanta was upset by Washington D.C. in the latest Census estimates, with the District of Columbia registering a mere 1,000 more people than “the city too busy to care about urban planning”.  The stealth estimating maneuver by the nation’s capitol knocked the city formerly known as Marthasville back into the #9 slot.

And instead of linking you to a ridiculous Excel doc, here’s the current Metro Top 10 for 2009.

  1. New York City – 19,069,796
  2. Los Angeles – 12,874,797
  3. Chicago – 9,580,567
  4. Dallas-Fort Worth – 6,447,615
  5. Philadelphia – 5,968,252
  6. Houston – 5,867,489
  7. Miami – 5,547,051
  8. Washington D.C. – 5,476,241
  9. Atlanta – 5,475,213
  10. Boston – 4,588,680
