Maloof Auditorium Floods
Decatur Metro | September 18, 2009The Clairmont Heights Association blog has a note from DeKalb Commissioner Kathie Gannon alerting the public that due to the flooding of the Maloof Auditorium “Winning the Water War Workshops on Saturday and Monday as well as the Tuesday Board of Commissioners meeting have moved.”
Guess the Maloof Building lost its own Water War today. Why am I not surprised?
Actually many of the County’s buildings have significant leaks, especially the libraries. Supposedly the County hasn’t had any money to replace roofs for a few years, and the libraries are old and their roofs are in dire need of being replaced. During these torrential and long lasting rains, there are leaks, mold growing under wallpaper, soggy carpets, rain damaged desks, and much more. I’m staying anonymous because I work for the county, but it’s shocking to see what’s going on inside the library buildings. The assets that are housed in these buildings are being damaged every time it rains. There is a lot of hope that stimulus money from the Feds will be forthcoming, but meanwhile we’re working in conditions with tarps and buckets and pans catching the leaks. It’s very disturbing as a DeKalb County tax payer to see the effects of so much neglect. It will cost much more money than the cost of a new roof to repair the damage that’s being caused by these leaks.
