Decatur CD Speaks Out About Sugarland “Tussle”
Decatur Metro | September 3, 2009From the latest Decatur CD newsletter…
As you may have heard, we caused a bit of a tussle on the internet recently by speaking our mind about independent retail, Wal-Mart, Sugarland, etc. Quite a few media outlets (the AJC, L.A. Times, CMT’s blog, many others) picked up the story and the whole thing got blown a little out of proportion as far as we’re concerned. But hey, that’s the internet, is it not? Just to clear the air, Kristian Bush stopped by the store and he was a stand-up guy all around, talking with Warren for a good long while, chatting up customers, and so on. Unfortunately, due to circumstances outside of our control, we won’t be stocking the current Sugarland release. However, Kristian did propose working with Decatur CD on a little event this fall. It’ll be fun and we’ll keep you posted when we have more details.
Traffic Stop Results in Illicit Drug Arrest
Decatur Metro | September 3, 2009Eric wrote in asking about a traffic stop of a maroon Honda CR-V in front of Little Azio around 6p yesterday evening. He reported seeing three Decatur Police cruisers and a DeKalb sheriff car at the scene.
Deputy Chief Keith Lee gives us the details…
The officers had made a traffic stop in reference to a complaint of illegal drug activity. A DeKalb County PD K-9 unit was requested and responded. Drugs were found in the vehicle and two people were arrested without incident.
Just another day in the life of DPD. Keep it up officers!
ATAC Co-Founder Enters Atlanta Mayor’s Race
Decatur Metro | September 3, 2009Kyle Keyser, the 35 year-old co-founder of Atlantans Together Against Crime, which was founded in the wake of the John Henderson murder, entered the mayor’s race yesterday.
In a statement on kylekeyserformayor.com, Kyle explains his reasoning for jumping in…
I believe all the current candidates are talented and care about the City. Still, at my core, I can’t bring myself to fully sign over to any of them. Like a Kirkwood resident I recently spoke with, I ask “how can I simply ‘roll the dice’ when the City’s needs are so dire?”
This question has compelled me to step up. Having my name on the ballot, at a minimum, can be a reminder to every candidate that all of us mean business… and there are alternatives. As they continue to campaign and ultimately go in and vote for themselves on election day, let them see my name next to theirs. Let them be reminded of the thousands of Atlantans who have joined together – from East Atlanta to West End and Boulevard Heights to Midtown – to say:
Enough is enough. We deserve a safe, functional, and well-managed city.
Grift calls Kyle’s run an “advocacy candidacy” and gives him 200-1 odds. Kyle needs $4,425 to qualify. You can donate over on the website.
Good Use of a Hill
Decatur Metro | September 3, 2009My wife and I were walking past First Baptist last night on our way to the Decatur Farmer’s Market when we saw these kids sliding through the trees on a huge tarp in the church’s front yard.
Being the intrepid journalist I am, I tried to yell over to see what sort of festival was going on, but unfortunately no one responded. (Just kidding, I didn’t even yell.)
