Decatur Walking Tours
Decatur Metro | September 14, 2009Active Living’s Dan Magee mentioned this in a comment on Free-For-All Friday, but I followed up with him this morning and got a couple more details about the six walks included in the new “Walking Tours” brochure. Here they are…
- The “Mayor’s Walk” is a one mile walk around the downtown area.
- The “Great Lakes Escape” is a 3 mile loop around the Great Lakes neighborhood.
- The “Sycamore & More” walk is approx. 4 miles down East Ponce, Glendale and Sycamore.
- The “Walk Around M.A.K.” is a 3 mile walk across the rail road tracks around McDonough, Adams and Kings Highway
- The “Agnes Scott & Oakhurst” walk is 4 miles through Oakhurst returning to downtown on Commerce
- The “To Wilton and Back” walk is a 2 mile down East Ponce in the Northwest area of the city
The map also features 34 points on interest throughout the city.
Maps are available at city hall and the Decatur Recreation Center.
My wife, dog and I have three standard walking routes: west on Ponce into downtown with a loop at the Square or thru Old Decatur, a walk through Clairemont Heights up to Vidal to Scott and back to Coventry, and the old shorter standby: up Ponce to Ponce Place thru Clairemont Heights and back to Ponce via Northern.
When we do a reprint, we’ll need to add the Decatur Metro Blog guy walking route
