Tastings' Mardi Gras Party

Decatur Metro | February 23, 2009

Kelly at Tastings passes along the info…

Fat Tuesday, Feb 24th 6pm

Come pass a good time! Check your troubles at the door! Laissez les bon temps rouler! En masque (optional).

Bring your best mask because we’re having a Mardi Gras mask contest. We’ll also feature themed drinks (Hurricanes, Sauzeracs, Pimm’s Cups, traditional Absinthe) , muffalettas, king cakes, beads and Mardi Gras music! Come celebrate Fat Tuesday with Louisiana natives!

FREE PARKING IN GARAGE!

My own warning:  Steer clear of downing multiple Hurricanes with 151 in them unless you’re cool with missing work the next day.

DM: Now With Threaded Comments!

Decatur Metro | February 23, 2009

The wonderful folks at WordPress, which host this lovely site, have finally made “threaded comments” available across its blogs.  What the heck does that mean?  It means you now have the ability to respond directly to an individual comment in a thread as opposed to being forced to place your comment at the very bottom of the screen.

So, say I say something outrageously offensive, but you’ve just gotten around to the post and there are already 8 other comments below mine about sustainable cat food…you no longer have to say “Hey DM, why so cranky?” and have people wondering what that has to do with farm-raised vs. wild salmon by-products.  Now you just scroll up to my blasphemy-laden rant and click the “reply” button below it.  Then you can write your comment directly below mine so readers have a bit more context as to what you’re referencing.

I’ve allowed these “nested” comments to go four levels deep at the moment, which allows a good bit of back-and-forth, but doesn’t let things get completely off-course.

Hopefully this new option gives folks a bit more flexibility when talking to each other in the comments section.  But we’ll see how it goes the next time we hit on a hot topic.  If its not our cup o’ tea, I can just as easily uncheck the box and we can all go back to our old, comfortable ways.

Enjoy!

For CSD's Sake, City Should Determine Viability of Annexation NOW

Decatur Metro | February 23, 2009

If your interested in staying up to date on CSD’s reconfiguration efforts, there are two online resources I would recommend.

The first is Decatur edTV’s latest video about next steps in the reconfiguration process.  The 10-minute report recaps the last Board of Ed meeting – where tons of parents turned out thanks to a poorly worded agenda item – and goes thru next steps. The other place to find next steps is CSD’s official “board-approved” reconfiguration next steps calendar. Coincidentally, the Reconfiguration Cmte meets this Tuesday and Wednesday where they will reexamine option costs.

I would also recommend checking out the Reconfiguration Committee’s Interim Report on this whole issue.  Its 14 pages long and gives a good look inside the collective head of that committee: where they’re coming from, what’s they’re worried about, etc…

After looking through both these resources myself, I have a recommendation. Read the rest of this entry »
