Greene's Fine Foods to Open October 1st

    Decatur Metro | September 15, 2008

    Again from Linda…

Greene’s Fine Foods, offering Nuts, Candy, Gifts & Fun, is opening October 1 in the old Federal Building on E. Trinity.  They specialize in New Crop Georgia pecans but say they have a selection for everyone by offering the highest quality nuts, handmade candies, gifts and fun for the whole family.  Many of the products are handmade and all of the products are hand served.  Owners and brothers, Tommy and Phil Greene learned everything they know about the candy and nut business from their parents who have been in the business in Augusta for almost 25 years.  The website is www.greenesfinefoods.com.

Awww…I was hoping for actual food being sold, like a market or something….guess I was fooled by their name.

Best wishes and hopefully we Decaturites can eat enough pecans and buy enough gifts to keep y’all afloat in the stormy retailer sea that is Decatur.

And I was hoping for a retro-type candy shop with all sorts of wacky goods from my youth (bubble gum cigarettes anyone? candy lipstick? wax bottles with sugar juice inside?). Ah well. Pecans are tasty too.

Amen Paula. And I thought I was the only one that craved bubble gum cigarettes and that delicious sugar juice.

But I bet the profit margin on a bubble gum cig isn’t that great.

Nor is a bubble gum cig politically correct, and a little child could get hurt on a wax bottle. What happened to the fun?

I remember those wax bottles with the juice inside. I loved those! Wax lips, too.

That building is so beautiful inside. It’s such a shame that it’s going to be a candy and nut shop. Oh, wait! Gifts, too! Yawn.

Wax lips – probably politically incorrect now also.

I am glad that Greene’s Fine Foods opened in Decatur–right across from
Twains. I wish they would publish how to get a catalog or even a phone
      number.
