Outside of Decatur, at Which Three Stores Do You Shop Most Often?

    Decatur Metro | July 1, 2014 | 11:10 am

This is a question that’s been posted on the city’s Open City Hall website since last September.

There are 23 pages of answers on the OCH website, but it will still be interesting to compare answers here!

Victory Vintage Home Downsizing and Closing Decatur Store

    Decatur Metro | October 9, 2008 | 11:46 am

Seems like we’re in the midst of another wave of store closings around town.

Rusty Tanton forwards this message from Victory Vintage Home…

Dear Friends of Victory Vintage Home:

As our five year anniversary approaches, I’ve made the decision not to renew our lease here. There are a few reasons but first let me say that we ARE going to stay in the lamp shade and lamp repair business; we’ll be moving these to Kudzu Antique Market starting 11/1/08. We will also continue to make hanging lights and sell great refurbished vintage lamps and a little furniture there too.

My experience here has been superlative and I can’t thank each and every one of you enough for coming to the store and/or visiting our web site on a regular basis. I feel privileged to have had your business, and that made my decision to close very difficult. In the end, these uncertain economic times and my own desire to try some new things prevailed.

Rest of the note can be found after the jump.

Greene's Fine Foods to Open October 1st

    Decatur Metro | September 15, 2008 | 8:22 am

    Again from Linda…

Greene’s Fine Foods, offering Nuts, Candy, Gifts & Fun, is opening October 1 in the old Federal Building on E. Trinity.  They specialize in New Crop Georgia pecans but say they have a selection for everyone by offering the highest quality nuts, handmade candies, gifts and fun for the whole family.  Many of the products are handmade and all of the products are hand served.  Owners and brothers, Tommy and Phil Greene learned everything they know about the candy and nut business from their parents who have been in the business in Augusta for almost 25 years.  The website is www.greenesfinefoods.com.

Greene's Fine Foods To Open in Old Post Office Building

    Decatur Metro | August 28, 2008 | 6:25 pm

Finally!  A store sign in front of the old post office building indicates that it will be “Greene’s Fine Foods“.

The only other online info I can find on it is in the form of job postings like this one…

Looking for energetic and fun full and part time employees to work in a brand new retail Candy, Nut, and Gift store in Downtown Decatur. Please forward resume or send an email to [email protected]

I hope Tommy meant to write “greenefinefood”, because he’s missing the ‘s’ and the store’s website includes it.  If so, not my job apps are going to get thru.

Candy and gifts!  All the rumors seem to be true…though we had heard nothing about ‘fun’ previously. 😉

Welcome to the ‘hood of neighbors, Greene’s!

RockIt Boutique Grand Opening This Saturday Night

    Decatur Metro | May 29, 2008 | 11:56 am

The only real buzz we’ve heard about Decatur’s newest clothing boutique, RockIt, is that its open and its next to Azul.  I haven’t really found any other info, so I held off on posting.

Now, thanks to AsianCajuns, we’re beginning to learn a little more.  Though its been open a few weeks, the store will have its Grand Opening this Saturday night from 6p-10p (the anime characters above seem happy about it).

Though I haven’t been able to find an official website for the store, they do have a Facebook page that provides a few shots of the store’s interior if you’re interested in getting a visual idea of their selection.

If you stop by on Saturday, you may even run into the AsianCajuns themselves, as they promise to be in attendance.

Square Roots on the Square Closes

    Decatur Metro | January 30, 2008 | 11:49 am

If you’ve been to the Brick Store lately you may have noticed that the little folk art shop next to Zocalo, Square Roots, has closed up shop.

Like many Decatur shops, this one sold an array of local art and antiques, but apparently not enough to survive.

The most recent comment (June ’07) on CitySearch about Square Roots portends its closing and asserts that new management hurt the business. See below…

“Wow, this store USED to be a gem! The new ownership has really caused a downswing in what used to be an adorable and eclectic store. Now, it is drab, with crabby employees and a dour, sour, and overwhelmed looking store owner to over see them all. Beyond the boring atmosphere ( no music and just plain uninviting!) the merchandise is nothing new. Some of the art is interesting, but certainly not worth what they’re asking for. It’s time for those roots to be pulled up and something new planted in it’s place! “

Honestly, I never ventured into this particular shop, so I rely on the opinions of others to hypothesize about its demise.
