Avondale Expedites Sunday Sales, Beer Growler Open This Sunday

    Decatur Metro | November 16, 2011

Patch reported yesterday that instead of waiting for already scheduled meetings to go through the necessary three readings of the Sunday alcohol sales amendment in Avondale Estates, Mayor Ed Rieker has rushed the process in order for the city’s businesses to sell alcohol this coming Sunday, November 20th.

Lo and behold, the Beer Growler in Avondale just sent out an email this morning alerting followers that they will be pouring this coming Sunday.  The email claims they’ll be the first craft beer store in Georgia open on Sundays.

Decatur is expected to allow Sunday sales starting next Sunday, November 27th.  We’ll know for sure after this Monday’s city commission meeting, though it’s little more than a formality at this point.  I sure hope Growlie the Growler shows up to show his support!

    Here Come the Growlers

    Decatur Metro | August 12, 2011

For a few months now, the guys at Ale Yeah! have worked diligently to keep up with demand for growlers at their Decatur location.  Long lines at lush hour (Before you scold me for name-calling, I readily admit I have observed these lines firsthand), and occasional growler outages were the most obvious signs that the desire for “fresh” beer in the DEC was bigger than most could have imagined.

But where there’s demand, there’s inevitably more supply around the corner.  In fact, in just the last couple weeks, the Oakhurst Market has started filling growlers from 3 rotating taps.

And that was it.  Until today.

Let it be known, years from now, when a joyful little growler is added to the city logo, “Growly the Growler” is seen dancing on the Square during the Beer Festival, and the city’s riotously successful bike share program attributes its success to the custom-made growler holder across the handlebars, that August 12, 2011 was the day of the growler explosion.

    What has happened?  Two things.

Today, The Beer Growler opened in Avondale Estates with 40 rotating taps.  Patch has got the goods on that one.

And also a little closer to home, Cooks Warehouse & Sherlock’s Wine Merchant tells us that as of today the shop has 4 rotating taps installed and are filling their own growlers.

And just like that, there are growlers within walking distance of thousands – if not millions – more Decatur residents!

The Year of the Growler: “The Beer Growler” Taps Avondale

    Decatur Metro | June 16, 2011

Patch reported yesterday that “The Beer Growler” – the Athens joint that was the first store in the state to start selling fresh beer in those throwback 64 oz jugs – is slated to open a second location in Avondale next month.   The growler-revolutionaries plan to renovate the former InMovement dance studio space at 38 North Avondale Road.

I’m just getting into the growler swing of things and have been wondering, can you use one growler store’s growlers at another location?   Also, is it just me, or do you tend to drink more when you have an open growler in the fridge?

Growler-Invasion: Athens’ Growler Store Said to Be Looking at Avondale

    Decatur Metro | April 25, 2011

Patch reports this morning that “The Beer Growler” in Athens – the first retailer to sell growlers in the state of Georgia – is trying to find a space in Avondale Estates to open a second location.  Sounds like it’s gonna take a bit of work though.

“We’re working with Avondale right now but they have to make some legislation changes,” Saunders said. “Avondale Estates is a great neighborhood. The city has welcomed us. But we are having a really difficult time finding space.”

If and when these growlers finally do begin to fill with suds in the area, they sure are going to have a lot to live up to after all this hype!
