    Ale Yeah! Announces Second Location

    Decatur Metro | May 31, 2012 | 10:50 am

Creative Loafing’s Austin Ray has an interview with Ale Yeah! owner Eddie Holley, which includes an announcement about a second location, opening this summer.

For the new establishment, which was originally slated for Alpharetta but will now be located at 408 S. Atlanta St. in Roswell, Holley says he’s shooting for a July 1 open date, but that more realistically, the store—which he hopes will be the second of three total, eventually—will open in mid-July. CL caught up with Holley to get the scoop on Ale Yeah!’s forthcoming middle child, his potential suburban customers, and what will happen if Atlanta’s craft-brew bubble bursts.

    Why Roswell?

    Sunday Sales in Decatur!

    Decatur Metro | November 27, 2011 | 6:27 pm

Scott admitted that he teared up a little bit as he took this photo of his Bell’s Winter White growler being sealed at Ale Yeah! in Decatur today.

OK, he didn’t actually admit that, but I can almost guarantee there were many excuses of “There’s just something in my eye!”.

    Here Come the Growlers

    Decatur Metro | August 12, 2011 | 2:01 pm

For a few months now, the guys at Ale Yeah! have worked diligently to keep up with demand for growlers at their Decatur location.  Long lines at lush hour (Before you scold me for name-calling, I readily admit I have observed these lines firsthand), and occasional growler outages were the most obvious signs that the desire for “fresh” beer in the DEC was bigger than most could have imagined.

But where there’s demand, there’s inevitably more supply around the corner.  In fact, in just the last couple weeks, the Oakhurst Market has started filling growlers from 3 rotating taps.

And that was it.  Until today.

Let it be known, years from now, when a joyful little growler is added to the city logo, “Growly the Growler” is seen dancing on the Square during the Beer Festival, and the city’s riotously successful bike share program attributes its success to the custom-made growler holder across the handlebars, that August 12, 2011 was the day of the growler explosion.

    What has happened?  Two things.

Today, The Beer Growler opened in Avondale Estates with 40 rotating taps.  Patch has got the goods on that one.

And also a little closer to home, Cooks Warehouse & Sherlock’s Wine Merchant tells us that as of today the shop has 4 rotating taps installed and are filling their own growlers.

And just like that, there are growlers within walking distance of thousands – if not millions – more Decatur residents!

Growlers Make Their Debut in Decatur This Evening

    Decatur Metro | May 26, 2011 | 2:22 pm

A few days back, “writerchad” mentioned in passing that Ale Yeah! would begin selling growlers this Thursday.  I checked in with Eddie at Ale Yeah! and he confirmed that was the plan, however he still had his fingers crossed that yesterday’s tap installation went smoothly.

Apparently it did, because he just wrote back…

We will be pouring growlers today at 6pm. Nick Purdy with Wild Heaven will be buying the first one and giving it away to a lucky customer!

Decatur City Attorney Deems Growlers Legal with Conditions

    Decatur Metro | April 6, 2011 | 11:05 am

Update: The city manager tells me that she thinks “branding” just means the name of the establishment selling the draft beer.

I’ve been trying to keep on top of this for everyone. From Decatur City Manager Peggy Merriss…

The City Attorney reviewed [a] request and offered his opinion that “Growlers” could be sold by businesses that have a valid alcoholic beverage license for the retail sale of beer for off premises consumption as long as they filled a branded glass container with draft beer from a keg that has been purchased from a wholesaler; they cap and seal the container; and, the contents are consumed off-premises.

This is great news for beer lovers! Seems to me like the only potential issue here is the “branded glass container”. Traditionally most growlers aren’t “branded”. I wonder if there’s a work-around here or if the city commission would have to make a change to the ordinance.
