Grindhouse Killer Burgers Plans January Open; Will Feature Rooftop Bar
Decatur Metro | October 21, 2015 | 5:20 pmLooks like it’s a South McDonough – I mean NORTH McDonough! – restaurant sorta day.
From the Grindhouse Killer Burger folks…
Construction continues on the Decatur location, and the restaurant is announcing an anticipated opening date of January 2016. This location will offer a full rooftop bar, seating for 200 throughout the restaurant and bar games including cornhole and darts in addition to more TVs than the other locations. Address is 433 N. McDonough St.
Well I’ll be darned, I DO see some steps in that rendering!
Yes! This sounds great!
Very exciting!!! I wonder if there will be a safe path to Twains out the back. If not, super-easy to Eddie’s Attic!
i can already feel the grease trickling down my chin
That’s not grease.
The wait is KILLING ME!!!
I was late to the last meeting and missed the public comment on the approval of the “beer and wine license” but no matter. The commission and staff seems dead set on approving more and more alcohol access as well as more special favors for certain non-profits (Usually the owner of a property requests a zoning change but apparently the commission bends the rules for some. And this was not the first time nor will it be the last time once other groups learn how to grease the wheels). No big deal, just business as usual.
Maybe Mr. Bill Banks will question the candidates this Sunday at Decatur Heights with something like, “Now that the commission has set the precident of favoring certain well-connected groups, are there any others you will support with loan guarantees or other special favors?” and “Are there any limits you would favor concerning access to alcohol now that we allow bars directly across from our schools and wild. alcohol fueled parties in the cemetery?”
And while I’m at it, does anyone besides myself think it strange that the Better Together committee will release their recommendations on the police and diversity goals five days after the election. They
Have you been to a Grindhouse Killer burger? It isn’t a bar, it is a burger joint. Most restaurants (unless they are quick service) serve alcohol. How is this new restaurant going to be different than any of the other restaurants/pubs in Decatur that are within walking distance of the high school?
But you are right, every time I walk into Brick Store it is completely full of high school kids with fake IDs, we should just close it and the rest of the restaurants down.
Just wait until you find out they have boozy milkshakes! Oops…
How great that the City has abandoned the arcane rules on alcohol licenses and schools. The temperance movement has finally been defeated! I for one will drink to that!
Why does Decatur bother with a public hearing for alcohol licenses? Other jurisdictions approve it administratively as long as the use satisfies local ordinances and the owner passes a background check. The business still has to get a state license after the local license is approved. Decatur makes them wait for a public hearing.
Also, read Decatur’s code and you’ll not see the word “bar.” Someone please show me a place in Decatur that serves alcohol and does not have a kitchen or serve regular meals. Because I would frequently visit such a place.
You should steer clear of Utah, where, IIRC, one HAS to purchase food to be served with any alcohol. I recall having to buy chips and salsa as a precondition to buying 2 beers at a bar in St George.
Ran into that law while visiting Zion National Park last year. Wow.
Back in the day, ski resorts were the only places in Utah with bars. Even then you had to bring your bottle of liquor with you and leave it with the bar, which would charge you to mix your drink. Bars would have 15 open bottles of the same brand, all with customer’s names taped to them. You could not talk a bartender to mix you a drink from a bottle that had clearly been abandoned there for several months.
Has anyone eaten at a Grindhouse? How’s the burgers?
I have two concerns with this place:
1. Decatur is becoming known more and more as a destination for alcohol. I know this brings in the money, but it’s sad to think that this is where people come when they need to self-medicate. On the plus side, I can self-medicate with grilled beef.
2. The smell of cooking meat is going to drive the high school students crazy. We may see a rise in incidents of cannibalism.
Their burgers are good. I prefer them over Farm Burger, but still prefer the original Vortex to all others.
1. To your point, I think it is the connotation that having more restaurants adds to more places to purchase alcohol. You are going to see it no matter where you go, and they are intrinsically linked. If we want to have nicer restaurants and more of them in downtown Decatur, having booze in the area is just a given. Personally, I love their boozy milkshakes.
2. This is great! We can see it as just another way for us to reduce the high school student over-crowding!!!
