Emory Releases Sketch of Rape Suspect

    Decatur Metro | February 18, 2014

11Alive did a video report on this over the weekend.  Having trouble embedding it, but you can view the full video on their website.  Here’s a blurb…

Emory University’s police department has released a composite sketch of the man who reportedly raped a student last week.

The rape happened Feb. 11 at around 11:15 p.m. in a wooded area of Emory’s campus near the information booth on Dowman Drive.

The victim described her attacker as a white man in his mid to late 50’s, about 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a reddish-brown beard. He was wearing a brown knit cap, a tan or brown jacket, dark blue jeans and brown boots.

$2 Stolen From Emory Coffee Machine

    Decatur Metro | February 18, 2011

Based on my own exposure to such things, I’d say that coffee machine theft is up 100% since last year!

From the Emory Wheel’s Police Report blog…

Persons unknown stole $2 from a coffee machine on the third floor of Rollins School of Public Health sometime between Feb. 4 at 11:30 a.m. and Feb. 7 at 8:30 a.m.

In case it’s not clear – and I’m sure it isn’t – this is my not-so humorous attempt to point out that our perception of crime – or any event really  – is based more on the amount of reporting it receives than actual occurrences.  Sudden increase in sewage spill stories anyone?

Arrests After Two Emory Frat House Robberies

    Decatur Metro | May 5, 2010

Emory Police have arrested two suspects after two robberies in four days on the “typically safe” Emory campus.

    From WSB…

One incident happened at the Beta Theta Pi house and the other at the Phi Delta Theta house along Eagle Row.

Two people have been arrested in connection with the armed robbery at the Beta Theta Pi house, said Emory spokeswoman Nancy Seideman. Seideman said the suspects were not Emory students, but did not provide Channel 2 with their names.

In one incident, the armed robbers stole various items including computers, a cell phone and a digital camera. Emory police later recovered a BB gun left at the scene by the assailants.

Anonymous Tip Leads Police To Alleged Emory Robbers

    Decatur Metro | March 3, 2010

    The AJC reports…

Police in DeKalb County have arrested two men in connection with a robbery Monday of five Emory University students.

An anonymous tip led detectives to Jonathan Ajizian and Cirilo Ramos, a DeKalb police spokesman said.

Ajizian was arrested Monday, and Ramos was arrested Tuesday, Officer Jason Gagnon said Wednesday. They each were charged with five counts of armed robbery and were being held at the county jail, he said.

Thanks to Steve to pointing this out!

Five Emory Students Tied Up and Robbed at Gunpoint

    Decatur Metro | March 2, 2010

    From the Emory Wheel yesterday…

Five Emory students were robbed at gunpoint at their residence on North Druid Hills Road Thursday at approximately 2:30 a.m., according to DeKalb County Police Department reports.

According to police reports, two masked male subjects entered the residence at 2497 North Druid Hills Rd. with weapons and tied up the five individuals inside, all of whom have been confirmed as Emory students.

The two masked subjects ransacked the home during the next three hours and stole items such as televisions, laptops, an undetermined amount of cash and assorted valuables, according to the police report.

According to Mekka Parish, public information officer at DeKalb County Police Department, one of the students involved in the incident was struck with a gun by one of the intruders.

According to the Wheel, DeKalb Police do not believe that this was a “random event.”  Nevertheless, quite frightening.
