This story is somewhat erroneous. The Decatur code of ordinances is quite explicit regarding the keeping of chickens. Sections 14-8 through 14-13 dictate living conditions, sanitary conditions, waste disposal, and similar. The calculations regarding coop size per bird and required distance from adjacent properties actually do provide a calculable limit on the number of chickens that can be kept on any given property.
